Trump rages Dem won't flip parties for him after 'greatest favor of his life'

Source: Raw Story

January 6, 2026 7:29PM ET

President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Tuesday to rage that Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), a conservative Democrat he gave a pardon to in a federal bribery case, is still running for office as a Democrat despite the massive "favor" he gave him.

Trump had apparently expected Cuellar would either bow out of the way or switch parties for him after the pardon, which was met with shock and anger by South Texas Republicans who had been hoping to unseat him. He has been fuming ever since realizing that Cuellar didn't plan to do either of those things.

"Nobody knows Henry Cuellar better than Donald J. Trump," wrote the president. "I studied his records, learned about his financing, and listened to his two wonderful daughters beg me to help the mother and father that they love. Their letters were heart wrenching and beautiful, but their father had problems that nobody could solve but me, and the daughters very correctly and respectfully knew that. He and his wife were headed to jail for up to 20 years because he was 'stupid' in what he did but, above all, because the Biden Administration practiced Political Weaponization on Cuellar and his wife because they didn’t agree with his policies on the Southern Border."

"He was a weak and incompetent version of me, who wanted the Border closed to criminals, drug dealers, people from mental institutions and, above all, murderers and heavy handed criminals that were sitting in jails and mental institutions, and should never have been given the right to be released into our Country," Trump continued.

Given Cuellar's dicey record, perhaps that was Cuellar's best dig he could have given to 45.

when turncoat “Dixiecrats” changed parties back in the 1980’s, Reagan and his people gave them some measure of loyalty and support.

With Donnie, loyalty is a one-way street: Donnie expects loyalty, but doesn’t give any in return.

EDIT: one of the interesting things I noticed was that there seemed to be a sort of honeymoon for turncoat Dixiecrats in Texas and ther states during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. They were welcomed in by their states”’ Republican Party machinery and by and large continued their careers without challenges from within their new parties.

The honeymoon seemed to wear out in the 1990’s. Most party-switchers who turned coats AFTER about 1994 or so got challenged by right-wing social activists and other reactionaries not only for not being “conservative” (reactionary) enough, but for not changing their party affiliations earlier. (Oh, dear, late to the ball! )

Maybe the pardoned Democrats that Donnie wants to flip know their history.

Can't remember the gentleman name but he is one of their occasional intel people and the story he ended up telling wasn't even part of the segment he was there for but a sidebar comment.
He was on the NSC in his first term and was set to give a briefing and had already been told to reduce his briefing read out for him. He had got it down to five pages he said but another principal told him it would need to be less. That you could only hand him stuff you expected him to read that was a single page of four or five, single sentence, bullet points that convey the issue. Also include a graphic of some kind, chart or picture to show what you mean.
He told them he didn't even think that was possible to do with such complex subjects and he was told it wouldn't matter, just make it easy to look at.

That story, not even the main point of the segment, absolutely horrified me. This moron is making decisions and speaking on things he is absolutely ignorant about and more likely than not couldn't understand it even if you explained it to him like a child.

Which is what actually appears to be happening.

Do your right, he may read it but he absolutely doesn't understand what he is reading.

I.e., he only does what the GS-1000s call "1-pagers".

I remember having to compile stuff to submit to higher-ups and mine had to be a "1-pager" so they could take what might be multiple "1-pagers" and consolidate THAT down to a single "1-pager"!

In fact, I remember a joke and meme from that, going around during his first term where there was a pic of him with stacks of papers and folders on his desk in the Oval Office, making it appear that he was doing all this work and reading through all this information, and I think they said that the folders (and anything in them) and sheets of paper, were all "blank".
