Jan 3 (Reuters) - Loud noises were being heard in Venezuelan capital Caracas in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to Reuters witnesses, and the southern area of the city, near a major military base, was without electricity.

One was so strong, my window was shaking after it, CNNE correspondent Osmary Hernandez said.

American helicopters were spotted over Caracas: See the map of Venezuelan airspace at that time.
The attacks targeted the southern districts of Caracasspecifically the Fort Tiuna district and the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda airfield. According to preliminary reports, at least ten sites in the capital were attacked.
The La Guaira naval base in Vargas State in the north of the country, which houses the Naval Academy, was also attacked, and power was lost there.

🚨#BREAKING: Reuters reports that U.S. ground forces and United States Air Force assets are currently on the ground and active in and around Caracas, Venezuela. Multiple explosions have been reported and observed across the capital as operations continue.
