'Embarrassment': Mike Johnson skewered by colleague as 'worst House speaker in US history'

Source: Raw Story

October 31, 2025 9:58PM ET

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) tore into House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Friday's edition of MSNBC's "All In" for continuing to keep the House shuttered for business, accusing him of "surrendering" the authority of Congress to President Donald Trump.

Johnson continues to hold the House closed because he wants the Senate to vote on a clean resolution to open the government the Republican majority has already passed. However, some observers have also accused him of engineering the closure of Congress as a ploy to prevent any action on a bipartisan discharge petition to compel the White House to release the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case files, which are expected to further embarrass President Donald Trump for his role in the scandal.

"I think I just saw that the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, has notified that next week will also be recess, which means I think that's a sixth, is that right?" said Hayes. "That's a sixth consecutive week that he's keeping the House out."

"Yeah," confirmed Raskin. "I mean, he has completely surrendered the legislative power of the people. This is the people's representatives. And so he's just lied, lying down and capitulating completely to Donald Trump and whatever he wants to do. It's a disgrace and an embarrassment that means he will go down in history as the worst speaker in the history of our country for doing this."

the USA went from the one of the respectable leaderships to a embarrassment, laughing stock and most dangerous country in the world.

Mexico, Columbia, Valenzuela are gearing up from attacks from the USA.

WTF.

Johnson, Thune, the 6 US SC, are a failure for democracy.

Republicans get control of a governmental agency they run it into the ground. Now they have control of the House. Who can feign surprise that they are running it into the ground.

Much of the US has come to believe that "government is not the solution, government is the problem". Now they will find out what it is like without a government to assist the 99% and for the 1% to live off like parasites.

A total fucking embarrassment to family and Louisiana.

One can’t help but wonder if trump has something on him. After all it’s just one big gaggle of perverts and backstabbers. But they bow their heads and pray Christian’s. And millions voted for THAT.

My congressman is unable to do any work on his Committees because Johnson is holding the U.S. House of Representatives hostage in order to continue the cover-up of the Epstein files.

While the House is not in session, the people that have a Representative in Congress can still talk to their Rep's staff, ask for help with issues, etc. what's known as constituent services. Congresswoman-elect Grijalva does not that capability since she has not been sworn in, hence she has no staff, no official email, no ability to provide services to her constituents.

For those with GOP Reps, those Reps had been directed to avoid their constituents - Republicans advised to avoid in-person town halls after confrontations over layoffs go viral

And good luck if they don't hit a "mail box full" when calling to leave a message.

Johnson has in essence, "dissolved" the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Hey, constituents, you’re on your own! But hey, thanks for the nice vote!”

My dad had a favorite phrase: “IGMFU”. It stood for “I Got Mine. F U.” That’s the GOP motto. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of ‘em actually had that motto framed and displayed somewhere that gave them extra satisfaction.

Democratic leadership, THIS is what we need so much more of, immediately: hard-edged, non-stop public shaming of trump's enabler pimps, like that gutless little weasel, Mike Johnson. trump's insane overreaching is making him less popular, and more vulnerable, by the day---we have to take a strong and principled stand against him, every chance we get. Newsom, Pritzker and Raskin are providing vivid examples of what needs to be done---let's all get busy!

Spineless, sad little guy!

There is security in following a Dictator! Until that Dictator is deposed of course.

Once Hitler was off the scene, as in dead, those who supported him faded like snowflakes in the sunlight.
Unless you wore a uniform of course, then you went to court and often, the gallows.

But there are many who don't want to learn from past history. Right, Mike?

Are MAGAts in government and their supporters on the street just anarchists?
Tear it all down, stand back and expect something 'better' to bloom spontaneously?
History says that just doesn't happen that way.

(*) Get you what? Nothing much, just total destruction of the Government, disruption of peoples' lives, the government and the forces of law turning on people. Mike thinks he won't be affected, true MAGA thinking, so he is OK with all that.
