Trump says all trade talks with Canada are terminated

Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, Oct 23 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that all trade talks with Canada were terminated following what he called a fraudulent advertisement in which former President Ronald Reagan spoke negatively about tariffs.
"Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump has used tariffs as leverage on many countries around the world.
His trade war has increased U.S. tariffs to their highest levels since the 1930s and he has regularly threatened more duties, sparking concerns among businesses and economists.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters on Thursday that Canada will not allow unfair U.S. access to its markets if talks on various trade deals with Washington fail.

Monied goppers don't have much to be happy about and unmonied goppers just keep losing benefits. goppers across the spectrum are getting more vocal. In terms of support, we may be at a tipping point. But that doesn't seem to stop his unhinged go about.

He just played the “aw shucks…” grandpa to a T. Went through a whole second term with reduced faculties. His wife and staff basically ran the show.

Republicans in that era had plenty of disdain for folks. They were just more careful who the expressed it to.

I definitely didn't say reagan or republicans of his day weren't hateful. Good gawd!

In spite of that he actually signed a bill that included immigration amnesty. Though they idolize reagan, limbaugh republicans/teabaggers/birthers/magas turned amnesty into a four-letter word, using it against any Democratic immigration proposals because their hate just burned hotter than reagan's

The natural tendency of modern Dems is to hedge and sugar-coat everything. This doesn't cut through the noise. We can see that these hard-hitting attacks are kryptonite to Trump.

Why? Trump is deeply insecure emotionally. All bullies are. Trump's strongest supporters are white seniors. A person who is 70 today was in their 30s when Reagan was in office, and many of them remember Reagan very fondly. We can see Trump's insecurity daily with all those references to himself as "your favorite President." An unfavorable comparison to Reagan is Trump's worst nightmares because he loses that comparison, at least among his senior base.

We would do very well to turn the next 3 years into a Trump versus Reagan debate within the GOP. And we have natural allies with Canada and Mexico. They both have every reason to despise Trump and will help us if we act strategically. For example, Schumer, Newsom, Jeffries and other prominent Dems should be making highly visible trips to Canada and Mexico and private meetings with their leaders. It doesn't matter what is discussed. Any such meetings will make Trump's head explode.

Yes, I know this "violates old norms". Even more reason to do so. Trump is a very paranoid person. This will drive him crazy.
