New York Post Reporter Suspended After Accusing Editor of Killing Story About Trump Nominee

A 16-year veteran reporter at the New York Post was suspended from the newspaper this week after he accused editor-in-chief Keith Poole of killing his story about one of President Donald Trump’s nominees. Reporter Josh Kosman was reportedly pursuing a story on Trump’s nominee to lead the Drug Enforcement Agency, Terry Cole, when he was informed his article had been “spiked” by Poole, according to the Breaker newsletter.

After his article kept getting delayed for publication, Kosman reportedly received an email from the New York Post’s political editor saying, “There’s no good way to say this, so I’ll just say it: KP [Keith Poole] spiked the story.” The email continued, “I sent him the most recent copy and his response was ‘Nope. Not running this’ in a way that made clear there was no changing his mind… I’m very sorry. I thought we had the story… but sometimes decisions are made above my pay grade.”

Just two weeks later, Kosman was told by the New York Post’s business editor that he would “either have to submit to a performance improvement plan, or take some time to seek another job,” Breaker co-founder Lachlan Cartwright reported. Kosman was then suspended from the newspaper with pay on Tuesday after Breaker reached out to the Post for comment.

“Unfortunately when Keith takes actions like this you are catching and killing a story,” Kosman told Breaker. “Then two weeks later you’re telling me to get out. I certainly interpreted it as retaliation. The timing struck me as not coincidental.” A spokesperson for the New York Post denied Kosman’s claims in a statement to Breaker.

Sen. Charles Grassley (Cretin, IA) noticed people were saying Cole's big on beating up the little people, a real death squads for kakistocracy type. Probably have big things in mind for his future role in culling the herd.

11. It would depend on the contract, but in general the newspaper would own that work product.

Ronan Farrow took his story about Harvey Weinstein to The New Yorker after NBC killed it, but he was a freelance writer at the time and I assume NBC had no legal claims to his work or they would've sued. But that does not mean there aren't ways to get the story out--even if you have to recreate the work product on your own. Ronan went on to write a book about NBC called "Catch and Kill" that exposed way more about NBC than I'm sure they ever wanted. Sometimes killing a story is worse than having it get out. I hope that happens here....

them always saying those people killed all the drug users. Drug use isn't forced on anyone and it is a personal choice knowing how many die because of overdose that they still choose to chase a temporary high . Should drugs be stopped , absolutely in any way possible but lay blame where it should go. Without people willing to partake their would be no demand for the drugs. Drug use in this country says a lot about this country and what could be the reason all these people think they can't enjoy and live life without having the high from them . The cause needs to be found and corrected to stop the death .
