Republican Tuberville announces bid for Alabama governor

Source: Reuters

May 27, 2025 5:04 PM EDT Updated 11 hours ago

WASHINGTON, May 27 (Reuters) - Republican U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville said on Tuesday he will run for governor of Alabama next year, ending weeks of speculation about his political plans for the 2026 elections. "I will be the future governor of the great state of Alabama," Tuberville, 70, said on Fox News.

A former college football coach best known for his time at Alabama's Auburn University, Tuberville was elected to the Senate in 2020 as a close ally of President Donald Trump.

Tuberville launched a "Coach for Governor" website featuring photos of him shaking hands with Trump and flanked by U.S. military officers. The website touts his 2020 election to the Senate as part of Trump's America First movement.

He pledged to boost manufacturing, improve education and stop illegal immigration if elected to replace Republican Governor Kay Ivey, who reached the state's two-term limit for the office.

My wife of 59 years is an Alabama girl who left the state at age 18 and never looked back. Every one of her family in Alabama is a MAGAt.

She talked with two of them yesterday - they are in the bag for “Coach.”

After talking with them she remarked “There is just no cure for stupid.”

5- republican representatives running for governor instead of running for relection.
States where they're running and current office holder
IA- republican- lowest approval rating in the entire country
MI- democrat- term limits
TN- republican- term limits
FL- republican-term limits
AZ- republican- currently undecided about running

1 republican senator running for governor instead of reelection
AL- republican- term limits

https://ballotpedia.org/List_of_U.S._Congress_incumbents_who_are_not_running_for_re-election_in_2026

15 states have governors in 2026 that can't run due to term limits.

Why are they not running for relection? I would think as incumbent the magas would want to run them to keep the majority? Is the plan to infiltrate the states, so there's no one to push back and fight?
We already see Krasnov doesn't need Congress.
Just some thoughts. Crazy and conspiratorial? Probably. But at this point I just imagine what the absolute worse could be and then figure that's what they are doing
