Pratt & Whitney workers with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union remain on the picket line even as a vote on a tentative agreement on a revised contract offer comes nearer.

“We’re still holding strong,” said strike captain Kevin Miller, three weeks after the strike vote and just shy of three weeks of walking the picket line — a line that has had more than one location in East Hartford, as well as in Middletown.

“There is a sense of cautious optimism with the new deal coming forth,” Miller said, as drivers honked in support, and East Hartford police officers kept a watchful eye on traffic safety at the very busy intersection just off Interstate 84.

Miller, who has had his job with the company for seven years, was flanked by about 20 union members and some supporting family of members; there were signs and a tent, food and an air of convivial brotherhood, even after weeks outside on the line.
