Trump's FEMA thumbs nose at state that backed him 3 times: 'Gonna cost a lot'

Source: Raw Story

May 23, 2025 8:51PM ET

Under President Donald Trump, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has turned down a request from a storm-ravaged state that narrowly voted for him three times.

Western North Carolina saw massive devastation last year from Hurricane Helene, which killed over 100 people and left the city of Asheville, along with a number of small communities in the Appalachian Mountains, struggling to pick up the pieces after flooding in areas that had hardly ever seen floods before. At the time, Trump supporters spread baseless conspiracy theories that the federal government was ignoring communities there, or only giving aid to Democratic areas, and Trump himself vowed to improve emergency management.

According to Rolling Stone, however, Trump's administration is now denying an extension of a commitment to pay the full amount for a vital portion of the recovery process.

"Four months into his administration North Carolina Governor Josh Stein, a Democrat, has become the latest lawmaker from a disaster-ravaged state who has been forced to beg the president to provide much-needed aid," said the report. "On Friday, Stein published a video on social media informing the public that the Trump administration had denied the state’s request for FEMA to honor a Biden-era commitment to pay for 100 percent of debris removal costs."

FEMA has denied our appeal to cover 100% of our debris removal for another 6 months. This disappointing decision means it will cost NC taxpayers more to clean up after Helene. But know this: we will not forget western North Carolina.

This will have zero impact on any election. These very same people would vote for the Mango Mussolini for a third term if they could. Their vote hinges on nothing but hate. As long as they are allowed to be as racist, xenophobic and misogynistic as they want, they will happily vote for Republicans for all eternity.

15. I respectfully disagree in so far as not all who voted for Trump are as tried and true as the GOP may hope

No argument that 40 to 45% of voters in 2024 may go to the grave before betraying Trump. (Although when he is not on the ballot, will be interesting to see how much energy and support he provides or followers transfer to others),. But, there were swing voters that will likely remain "swingers" in the future and may have ample reason to realize they F'ed up in 2024. Moreover, 25% of registered Dem voters did NOT vote in 2024. Horrible! But, should they find reason and opportunity to vote, they could come back to the fold. They and the "swingers" in many, not all, House districts could easily boost Dem Congressional and local/state elections to the true Blue.

Starting at the top, no one seems to know right from wrong anymore. We used to excel at that here in the United States

7. They just elected a Democrat as a governor in 2024 (who replaced a 2-term Democrat - Roy Cooper)

Josh Stein IS a Democrat, and was previously the (D) state AG, and won by almost 15% against a complete wacko loon.

NC is a swing state and it's a matter of tapping into the disinterested Dems or Indies who ARE there, and get them fired up enough to deal with the gerrymandered state legislature. They FINALLY resolved the state Supreme Court race where (D)s now barely hold the majority.

Oh and Obama did win NC in 2008 by about 1/3rd% (but unfortunately lost it in 2012 by about 2%). Harris lost it by about 3% (Biden had lost it by a little more than 1%).

9. Trump can't run for reelection, so he doesn't need their votes anymore.

What he does need is the money that NC was supposed to get for disaster cleanup so he can give it to the super rich.
The question is, will the residents of NC throw out the Republicans who represent them in the House and Senate when they come up for reelection in 2026 and 2028?

If you are already in charge. It's already very apparent that the federal police force and military are on the Mango Mussolini's side (and he knows it). The American population, as a generalization, are spineless, convictionless, cowards, so what is his incentive to leave and who would make him?

Wasn't it a Republican talking point during the election that Biden and Harris were, somehow, forgetting about Western NC and FEMA wasn't helping them? The press loved to talk about it even though it wasn't true but often they left that part ambiguous... unintentionally I'm sure.

Now am I to understand that not helping them is a good thing?

We are getting played.

I mean, voting for Trump once; that's something any sub-par state can do. To vote for Trump three times shows a dazzling commitment to fecklessness and political douchebaggery.
