'Rankled' Trump issues veto threat over Chuck Grassley's bipartisan tariff bill

Source: Raw Story

President Donald Trump has reportedly threatened to veto a tariff bill sponsored by Sens. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

Axios reported on Monday that the White House objected to the bill that would limit the president's ability to impose tariffs without first notifying Congress.

"If passed, this bill would dangerously hamper the President's authority and duty to determine our foreign policy and protect our national security," a White House statement sent to congressional offices said. "If S. 1272 were presented to the President, he would veto the bill."

At least seven Republican senators have indicated that they would support the bill.

And, maybe by then, they'll be enough votes to override his veto (in the Senate). sinkingfeeling Apr 7 #1

tRump is determined to retain and wield tariff power. He thinks it's his legacy to reform US government financing and US manufacturing and usher in a "Golden Age".

Him escalating on China by setting the tariff at 104% with a 24 hour deadline is more proof he wants and likes the power.

His mouthpiece Karoline Leavitt shooting down a rumour of a 90 day tariff suspension, calling it "fake news" (which it might have been), is confirmatory.

He has an Oval Office media event later this afternoon, I hear.

(1) he declared a bunch of emergencies that purportedly can be addressed via tariffs
(2) Congress gave away its right to insist on the ability to terminate those tariffs in its continuing resolution bill

I'm glad Congress is waking up, but they should have awakened before (2) happened. And Trump's presidential authority to impose tariffs (as a general rule) is nonsense.

but he definitely has an end goal in that crazy mind. He's not content to rule the United States. I think he's seeing he's drained about as much money as he easily can from its coffers. Americans are not playing fair and "minding him" by joyfully giving up their rights and liberties and doing what he says without question.

Like Hitler, trump wants to rule the world. Nothing less is acceptable. I keep hearing in my head a reframe of a Dune book... "God Emperor of Dune." trump wants to be God emperor of planet Earth. To make every nation and continent of the planet bow down to his desires and wishes willingly. To flatter him unceasingly and turn against anyone who doesn't toe the trump line - whatever that may be at any given moment.

This man is beyond dangerous. He's beyond evil. He MUST be stopped before he destroys the entire global community. Creating a holocaust in our own country, or by proxy in another, even more barbaric country, is child's play for him and a goal to be achieved. Just look how long Hitler has been remembered, and all the books that have been written about him. For someone who only cares about spectacle and staying in the lime light, this must be a major incentive for trump. Dropping a nuke on someone is definitely not off his agenda. He's crazy enough to do it, claiming some emergency power. SCOTUS better get their crap together, because right now they seem to be the only court he part-way listens to. Whether or not that has any influence on his actions is still to be discovered.
