Canada slaps matching 25% tariff on U.S.-made vehicles in latest response to Trump's trade war
Source: cbc.ca
Canada is retaliating against Trumps trade policy with a 25 per cent tariff on vehicles imported from the U.S. that are not compliant with the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).Prime Minister Mark Carney is announcing the move during a press conference in Ottawa this morning.
The government will also impose the tariff on non-Canadian content of any CUSMA-compliant vehicles from the U.S., Carney said. Mexico wont be impacted.
Our tariffs will not affect auto parts because we know the benefits of our integrated production system, he said, adding that the government is developing a framework for automakers to avoid counter-tariffs as long as they maintain production and investment in Canada.
Canada will take countermeasures intended to have maximum impact in the United States and minimum impact here in Canada, Prime Minister Mark Carney says.Speaking in Ottawa, Carney cautioned the road ahead will be difficult as Canada navigates the trade war.

My Lexus lease is up in fall 2026, and I might buy my lease out. It will have about 10k miles on it. But it will depend if I want the newest features that will be added. I love my car (RX 350h) so I will just have to see what the situation is.
