Gabbard says she is 'aggressively pursuing' national security leaks to media

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said Friday that the Trump administration will aggressively investigate people in U.S. spy agencies who leak information to the public, citing recent stories on national security topics in The Washington Post and other news outlets.
Gabbard, who coordinates the work of 18 U.S. intelligence agencies, said in a statement that what she termed politically motivated leaks undermine national security and will not be tolerated. Unfortunately, such leaks have become commonplace with no investigation or accountability. That ends now, she said. We know of and are aggressively pursuing recent leakers from within the Intelligence Community and will hold them accountable.
In posts on X, Gabbard cited reporting by HuffPost, The Post, NBC and the Record as recent examples of unauthorized leaks. In The Posts case, she cited information on Israel/Iran, an apparent reference to a report last month on U.S. intelligence analysis of Israels preparation for a possible strike on Irans nuclear facilities.
The Washington Post takes seriously its responsibility to seek and report the facts without fear or favor on behalf of the American people, regardless of the administration, said Matt Murray, executive editor of The Post. That includes our commitment to report on our government and its policies, and we will continue to hold power to account.

Face facts folks, this is part of the fascist playbook. Silence the media. (Not loyal media, just those who dare to question Dear Leader.)

(39,635 posts)Trump hates leakers. Talking to the press is not necessarily leaking information if it is not classified. It might be just mildly embarrassing. We need to know these things. Trump is particularly secretive. He doesnt even like people taking notes. Its an obsession.

If I'm not mistaken, the first thing one learns in journalism school is "Governments lie".
Good on Matt Murray for standing up for his profession, which is to report the good,
bad and ugly about our government plus other things of import to the general public.
And good on the patriot leakers!

(4,255 posts)If you work in anything national security you know that your email and most forms of electronic communication on government platforms are or can easily be monitored and communications history uncovered. Not too hard to have a burner phone you use from locations where the communications would not be linked to you even if sniffed out. The info is more of a traceable if the knowledge imparted is limited to very few people and you can easily be subject to a lie detector or they plant info just to you and you pass it on and it gets published pinpointing you.
