Elon Musk threw a tantrum after his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was dealt a series of legal setbacks, immediately calling for the impeachment of federal judges. Without judicial reform, which means at least the absolute worst judges get impeached, we dont have real democracy in America, Musk said on X.
He reacted after federal agencies were ordered on Thursday to immediately reinstate tens of thousands of federal workers with probationary status who had been laid off by DOGE as part of its sweeping government cost-cutting efforts, dealing a blow to Musk, as he seeks to eventually reduce the deficit by $1 trillion. Musk has been on a mission since President Donald Trump returned to the White House to overhaul the federal workforce, and has claimed to have slashed tens of billions in wasteful spending so farpartly by firing thousands of federal workers across multiple agencies.
A multistate lawsuit had accused the federal government of unlawfully firing tens of thousands of probationary employees and claimed the terminations occurred without transparency, placing excessive strain on state unemployment support systems and causing economic damage.
In response, an order by Judge James Bredar of the U.S. District Court for the District of Marylandwhich expires March 27requires that 18 federal agencies must offer jobs back to the probationary workers affected since Trump took office. They have until 1 p.m. Monday to rehire their terminated employees, The Washington Post reported.

(10,667 posts)Without 67 votes in the Senate, impeachment means nothing. Its the conviction that counts, and that aint happening.
BumRushDaShow
(150,929 posts)who do go through with submitting it and won't table it, then that judge gets pulled off the bench to sit through a circus side show "hearing". And if loons are vindictive enough and vote to impeach - even if it doesn't get 67 votes in the Senate, that judge is STILL off the bench wasting time in a kangaroo court "trial", as the cases back up, and no government business gets done in Congress.

(150,929 posts)We are talking judges.
I remember Alcee Hastings' impeachment and he was there.
He was impeached in the House AND convicted in the Senate, meaning he lost his judgeship. But he came back to D.C. a couple years later after running for Congress as a Rep. from Florida (initially FL-23 then FL-20), and served there for almost 20 years until he passed away a couple years ago.

(10,667 posts)There are not 67 votes to convict on an impeachment based on an Elon Musk tantrum, and no requirement for the defendant to appear during the trial.
BumRushDaShow
(150,929 posts)That was because he managed to get acquitted in federal court for the same.
And I didn't say they would convict and remove - only that just like what happened to Mayorkas - having WASTE OF TIME show hearings and a trial (if neither get tabled or sent to Committee). They do things for "show" and have a dear leader who is running a "reality show" for "ratings".

musk has no power here.. he is an insurrectionist; an unelected, unconfirmed usurper; a phony; a money-grabber; a fake bureaucrat; an arguably mentally-ill (though crazy-rich) toady for a pathetic and obviously mentally compromised pretender currently inhabiting the 'oval'.
There is nothing 'official' about musk and clearly there must be consequences for the troubling crimes he has committed against We The People; our country and our Constitution.

(2,651 posts)The rulings against Trump are consistent with the law and policy; the executive branch has the authority to discharge Federal employees but must follow established policies, procedures, and the law Trump failed to do that.
The only person who needs to be impeached is Trump.

(85 posts)The USA form of government is not a pure democracy. Maybe if he had gone to a good public school in the USA he would have learned this in Middle school or High school civics. These very important classes seem are being dropped as a requirement in many areas of the country. So important to learn. We vote for people to represent us.
Also
Our Constitution and amendments to the constitution with laws following on those stipulations are set up in an attempt to keep the majority from oppressing the minority. Otherwise a majority could creat laws that are really unfair to the people on the minority side of the issues. Maybe what the current people in power appear to be doing in opposition to the constitution.
From a google query:
The US government, a federal republic, is structured with a separation of powers among three branches: legislative (Congress), executive (President), and judicial (federal courts), as defined in the Constitution.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
Federal Republic:
The United States is a federal republic, meaning power is divided between a central (federal) government and individual state governments.
Three Branches of Government:
Legislative Branch: This branch, composed of the Congress (Senate and House of Representatives), is responsible for making laws.
Executive Branch: Led by the President, this branch enforces laws and is responsible for foreign policy and national security.
Judicial Branch: This branch, headed by the Supreme Court, interprets laws and ensures they are applied fairly.
It seems he and other do not want to follow this structure
