Veterans to March on Washington to 'Defend the Constitution': What to Know

Last edited Tue Mar 11, 2025, 08:18 PM - Edit history (1)

Veterans are planning to march on Washington DC in order to defend the Constitution and the oath they swore to it. The protest, set to take place on March 14, has been publicized across social media through various posters and by the website NowMarch.

Veterans joining the march intend to peacefully protest the Trump administration's proposed cuts to Social Security, federal job losses for veterans, the pardon of January 6 rioters, and reductions in veterans' healthcare services.

One of the promotional posters for the protest quotes General Mark Milley, who said: "We don't take an oath to a king." Last month, the White House posted an edited photo of President Donald Trump wearing a crown with the caption, "Long Live the King."

When individuals join the armed forces or take an oath of office as a politician, they swear to protect the U.S. Constitution from "all enemies, foreign and domestic." The participants of this march see it as their responsibility to speak out against what they perceive as unconstitutional actions by the Trump administration. Newsweek has contacted NowMarch via email for further comment.

Trump is just waiting for something like this to activate the "Insurrection Act" and mobilize the entire U.S. Military nation wide by declaring Martial Law..............Of course, I would believe Trump couldn't even find law enforcement officers that would confront a Veteran parade.........much less anyone in the National Guard or U.S. Military......

you can't send the military after the military. It's a message to the military that veterans don't support this. These people are the soldiers' future.

On July 28, 1932, 17,000 WWI veterans, their families, and assorted allies marched on DC, trying to get their pay bonuses early. Many of them had been out of work since the end of the war.

First the police, then the Army under MacArthur.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonus_Army

I doubt the Army would be used this time, though, or even the police. My bet is a bunch of Border Patrol agents will be told to do the dirty work, and they would gladly comply.

They don't care from whom the blood flows, just that it flows.

and being able to stand without a walker for how ever long. I would love it if they'd also include VA Facilities in this. I have a VA hospital not more than 10 minutes from my house... and I could easily transport what I'd need to stay put for a while, or call someone to bring me something... like meds.

I think your nearby VA would be a great place to protest. Check at American Legion or VFW to see what they are going to do. There may be some veteran folks who might like to accompany you at the VA hospital. But if your idea doesn't pan out, or you just don't feel well enough, just remember that you can probably find it on C-Span, noon, this Friday!

at the rally. You have more clout and more standing to complain.

In the end, whether Trump succeeds in his coup depends on whether the military will fight for him. Veterans who expose what Trump is doing to them is key. You are the future forcurrent soldiers. I don't see them fighting against you or their future rights.

We are grateful you have spoken and acted, in our behal.

I had added the link to their website to the OP - https://nowmarch.org/

protests for 50 state capitals, many other cities have held protests at the same time. People have started just showing up at VA health clinics and offices with signs in many states. If you can’t go in person, look for coverage because it gives a feeling of hope to see people making “good trouble”. I have a friend who is housebound that makes calls to local newspapers and tv news to ask them to cover the protests. Rachel Maddow does a segment on the protests and town halls with photos most nights. I really appreciate all of the great posts and links from DU family helping to keep us all informed. “ Forewarned is Forearmed”. Love ya DU Family. Insist! Resist! Persist!🩷

Now if we could get 'real' Christians to take down the evangelical charlatans publicly and loudly we might be getting somewhere.
Business leaders are too self centered and corrupt so I expect nothing but lies from them.

A former 45 campaign staffer (I believe from 2020 ETA - 2016) who is now anti-45 and hosts a podcast. She had sued 45 for a NDA requirement and won in 2021.

Her podcast is called " Lights On with Jessica Denson" and she spent a bit under an hour discussing this march (with some guests) and fundraising this past Monday -

It only appeared in this particular "M$M" article now because the others are completely ignoring it, being owned by RW oligarchs.

These "grassroots" efforts are often spread by social media and many older folks don't use that.

This group held a similar march on January 2nd or 3rd so this is not their first rodeo.
