January job openings and total separations change little; hires unchanged
The number of job openings was little changed at 7.7 million in January. Hires held at 5.4 million, and total separations changed little at 5.3 million. Annual levels and rates for 2024 are now available.

JOB OPENINGS AND LABOR TURNOVER JANUARY 2025
The number of job openings was little changed at 7.7 million in January, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Hires held at 5.4 million, and total separations changed little at 5.3 million.
Within separations, quits (3.3 million) and layoffs and discharges (1.6 million) changed little.
This release includes estimates of the number and rate of job openings, hires, and separations for the total nonfarm sector, by industry, and by establishment size class. This release also includes 2024 annual estimates for job openings, hires, and separations. Job openings include all positions that are open on the last business day of the month. Hires and separations include all changes to the payroll during the entire
month.
Job Openings
The number of job openings was little changed at 7.7 million in January but was down by 728,000 over the year. The job openings rate, at 4.6 percent, changed little over the month. The number of job openings increased in real estate and rental and leasing (+46,000). (See table 1.)

. . . Layoffs fell slightly in January, and the number of Americans quitting their jobs rose.

Note again this is for JANUARY, a month when tRUMP was president for only the last 1/3 of the month.
