'A big mess internally' as Elon Musk's DOGE team scrambles for 'wins': report

Source: Raw Story

March 10, 2025 8:26AM ET

Increasing skepticism, growing Republican pushback and a string of embarrassing claims that swiftly fell apart have Elon Musk and his team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) scrambling to post some wins that don't fall apart so they can move on to the next mission.

According to a report from the Washington Post, the billions in waste and fraud Musk and his staffers at the unofficial government department claimed they would ferret out have not turned up, as DOGE is becoming known more for accounting errors, shutting down popular programs and firing federal workers only to have to backtrack and beg them to return to their jobs.

As the Post's Elizabeth Dwoskin, Faiz Siddiqui and Emily Davies are report, negative headlines and growing impatience from Donald Trump's White House are increasing pressure to find and promote positive achievements. The dissatisfaction with what has transpired thus far led General Services Administration official Thomas Shedd to implore his staffers, “I need wins to defend.”

With Trump Cabinet officials bristling at Musk's demands they gut their own staffs and GOP lawmakers abandoning holding town halls over fears of having to face constituents about cuts in services, treatment of veterans and mass firings impacting local economies, there is a sense within DOGE-world that their best-laid plans are falling apart.

They just thought they could go in and slash and burn like musk did to Twitter/X. No one stopped to think that the US government was a bit more complicated and required more knowledge and smarts to run than an internet company. At least the mistakes I’ve seen reported have all been stupid mistakes made by uneducated children.

A complete failure and embarrassment?

Also seems appropriate, since Edsel was the son of Henry Ford, the well-known Nazi-lover, and also a member of the board of American IG, subsidiary of IG Farben, which went on to manufacture Zyklon B to murder millions.

It was inevitable that they were never going to find $2 trillion in "waste, fraud, and abuse". That was never more than an internet conspiracy theory, like most of the ideas Trump ran on. Ironically when he won it gave them the power to finally disprove it.

Three hundred million+ Americans depend on their government to be reliably functional, at least most of the time! It took two hundred and fifty years to get where we are, if you break it it will take a long time to replace it, and people will suffer.
These goons have no plan.

Are finding out how complicated it is to destroy services that millions of Americans use daily. Some of the Americans and especially MAGAs are finding out, too. As jobs are axed and services disrupted, some of the recipients of those services (or are employed by the government) are in the Find Out Phase of their education. They chose to let tRump muck around with their services and jobs and they’re discovering that they are the ones being hurt.

The frat boys are finding out that maybe it is not so easy to take these things away and still have people cheering for them. They had no idea (and no cares) about what these agencies did for the people. As their actions are revealed, they’ll be lucky to escape with their mangy lives once Americans catch on to the real untold story of what was done to them by tRump, Musk and the frat boys.
