US to assess Ukraine's peace stance in Saudi Arabia meeting

U.S. officials are planning to use Tuesday's meeting with a Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia in part to determine whether Ukraine is willing to make material concessions to Russia to end the war, according to two U.S. officials.

The U.S. delegation will also be watching for signs that the Ukrainians are serious about improving ties with the Trump administration after a meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy devolved into an argument last month, said one of the officials, who requested anonymity to preview the closed-door talks.

"You can't say 'I want peace,' and, 'I refuse to compromise on anything,'" one of the U.S. officials said of the upcoming talks.

"We want to see if the Ukrainians are interested not just in peace, but in a realistic peace," said the other official. "If they are only interested in 2014 or 2022 borders, that tells you something."

Ukraine was bombed by Russia. Russia is the country that owes Ukraine, an end to the war, and pay for the damage, destruction reparations for the human loss and terror experienced by it's citizens.

I guess Zelensky has to go through with this charade for the sake of his European allies - if only to show the limits of how far you can go along with this sordid agenda and what the ploy is. I suppose it also buys some time.

I hope he's not naive enough to think that Ukraine has any special status in Trump's reckoning or that the escalating demands from Trump will stop if they just agree to his latest conditions. Like Putin, Trump simply takes acquiescence as weakness, and as a predator is duty bound to exploit it. If he hadn't made those stupid declarations about ending the war in a day in his stump speeches, I don't think he would have any interest in what happens at all.

Zelensky hasn't given me any reason to regret trusting his judgement yet. I hope that continues.

if Russia agrees to end the war, and leave all Ukrainian territory, Ukraine should grant them ownership of Florida, and all trump proprieties world wide. I mean, as long as we are in the business of giving away other peoples land.
