Zelenskyy meets with bipartisan group of senators ahead of tense White House exchange

A group of bipartisan senators met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday morning ahead of the tense exchange between the Ukrainian leader, President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Chris Coons, D-Del., and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., as well as other Democratic and Republican senators, gathered for an hourlong "encouraging" meeting with Zelenskyy ahead of his visit to the White House, the three lawmakers posted on their social media accounts.

"Just finished an encouraging meeting in Washington with President @ZelenskyyUa and a bipartisan group of Senators to discuss our ongoing partnership with Ukraine," Coons wrote on X, accompanied by a selfie with Zelenskyy, Graham and Klobuchar.

"Really good bipartisan meeting before President Zelensky heads to the White House. We stand with Ukraine.🇺🇦" Klobuchar wrote in a post on X. "So honored to take part in the hour-long discussion with President Zelensky and Senators Coons, Graham, and other Democratic and Republican Senators this morning. There is strong bipartisan support in the Senate for Ukraine's freedom and democracy," she added.

This is where John McCain is sorely missed as he seemed to be the only one able to keep Graham under some modicum of control.

"These minerals are necessary for us to compete and win the 21st century economy. President Trump was very excited, President Zelenskyy is very excited about this economic deal."

He knows Zelensky is in a desperate situation and Trump thinks he has the upper hand. He will hold the weaponry Ukraine needs until Ukraine turns over HALF of the country's wealth in resources. I would really like to see someone ask Lil Marco with the big ears explain why America is demanding 5 times more money than we gave that country and that a money "deal" is contingent on "peace". If that money was going to Russia I would understand. They would be paid off. Why isn't Russia told to pay a half a trillion dollars to America? They have minerals too.

It is a lie that America has donated $350 million to Ukraine.
It is a lie that the money the EU has given Ukraine is a loan.
It is a lie that the EU has given less money than the US.
Putin started this war and Putin can end it by withdrawing.
When has a worn torn country ever been asked to give up its wealth after the resolution of war? Well maybe Germany in WWI. Ukraine did not start this conflict. Ukraine will need all of its resources to heal if the conflict is ever resolved. The United States ought to be embarrassed that they are trying to shake down a country in this situation.

and THAT is without any security agreement. Through all the screaming toddler gibberish, IIRC, Zelenskyy mentioned that in the past, Russia had signed "25" agreements with Ukraine (ceasefire, etc) and broke every single one.

8. why can't any media analysis of the TSF/Zelensky/Ukraine dynamic start with a history of

TSF coddling up to Putin? There are 10 years worth of sound bytes, investigations, official concern, mysterious behavior, quotes, etc.. to inform where we are now.

Isn't this important context? How about just starting with Pelosi standing up in front of TSF and cabinet members and acknowledging that 'With you, everything is about Russia?'. She knew. Hillary knew. Most of us know.

The WH fit with Zelensky is in a continuum of TSF behavior now extremely important in world dynamics, NATO, China, trustworthiness. Maybe war. It is not merely an interesting TV spot and chance for some kind of Zelensky/Trump UFC analysis. The undercurrent and suspicions here about why this is happening pertains to perhaps the most serious international sea change since 1989...and is the opposite direction in terms of global stability and safety.
