I took Mr. Danmel for outpatient eye surgery yesterday. He has (had) a strabismus so he was operated on by a pediatric surgeon.
We live in a suburb of NYC
There was a sign in the waiting area that said that any one with a rash who was unvaccinated had to alert the staff.
In 2026 ! I was 3 when the measles vaccine came out.
Hard to believe we have to deal with this ignorance again.

(55,746 posts)my guess is the Hassidic Community. The inhabitants don't do vaccinations.
A few years back, there was a boy who contracted polio in Monsey, who came back from Israel, who was unvaccinated.

Hasidim don't vaccinate. It's a genuine risk factor for public health. The fact that there's some tangential tie in to Judaism does NOT automatically mean that there is jew blaming happening. Don't look for slights where there aren't any. We'll all be a happier.

(37,690 posts)Some folk I knew in Oregon rejected vaccines for religious reasons.
A coworker back in '83 or '84 would puke if Reagan's name was even alluded to and was left of Mondale. Belonged to a co-op, all natural food, graduate from a small liberal arts college, an out of work Montessori teacher. Anyway, she completely refused to have her daughter vaccinated because she was big into naturopathy with a touch of homeopathy and would home school--trained Montessori instructor, right?--rather than submit having her kid vaccinated for public schools.
