In the latest Siena Research Institute poll of more than 1,100 New York registered voters, Hochul's lead increased to 20 points over her Republican challenger Blakeman, up from a 16-point lead in April.
According to the poll, Hochul's lead has widened in downstate suburbs, she has a better than three-to-one lead in New York City and more independent voters are now leaning toward voting for her as that lead has grown to five points after leaning toward Blakeman by two points in April.

(69,972 posts)I see two propaganda approaches at work:
1. Convince Republicans and right-leaning Independents that the Democratic Party is nothing but "communist socialist American flag burners who are stealing your money and giving it to illegals." This propaganda campaign began decades ago and is working brilliantly for the billionaires.
2. Convince Democrats and left-leaning Independents that the Democratic Party is "nothing but a bunch of greedy selfish bigoted genocidal centrists who want to exploit the workers and oppress brown people in the global south." This propaganda campaign is also working brilliantly for the billionaires.
The second approach debuted in the early 2010s and really hit its stride in 2016, resulting in the first election of Trump. It was back in full force by 2023, leading to Harris's defeat in 2024.
The billionaires are working hard to block Democratic gains this fall.

(8,397 posts)that on social media someone will post something positive about a democrat or the party in general and the comments will be filled with MAGAts saying #1 and Green voters saying #2. LOL

(61,224 posts)My close family, defined as all siblings and their kids are all Democrats, but a small number of family beyond are starting to echo Trump's line that Democrats are electing Communists.
In the past, I would just ignore it as, in many cases I don't know them well. What I have started to do is to answer politely, but in a "teaching" type way trying hard to appear to be encouraging civility. I implicitly equated calling progressives communists to others calling MAGA Nazis. ( Note I use Nazi instead of fascist, as they are doing fascist things.) I am doing this only with people who are only rarely posting anything political.
For me, this is a step out of my comfort zone. Discussing things here or with close family is easier because even when we disagree, there is a reservoir of shared values.

(24,523 posts)that said, American eyes are beginning to slowing open. The feeling of economic downfall is within grasp as well as the insecurity of safety. Our present government hates us while stealing our resources and hard earned money.
The lack of any compassion from this administration, the republican party, the highest court in the US - the six.
250th USA birthday at this point is a sad time, instead of happiness, fear supersedes.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel.
