Actually served his country.

Got busted for pot, I believe.

Not a fan of the song, but at least he's not a phony like Greenwood who avoided service in Vietnam via a hardship deferment.

Ironic that they're always the ones who spew "patriotism" like some kind of foul gas.

Lee Greenwood avoided serving in Vietnam. He skipped the draft by marrying his teenage girlfriend after getting her pregnant. So, he got a "family deferment." Trump had "bone spurs." Never even had to get a draft physical. His own doctor wrote it down. Deferred! Getting deferred kept you from being shot at. It was very convenient. Very convenient, indeed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Greenwood

But, he can sing loudly about how proud he is to be a Merkin. He knew he was free from serving in the military. Convenient, isn't it. The rest of us in his generation were subject to the draft. Some, like myself, enlisted in the military for four years to avoid the risk of getting drafted into the Army. We were called "draft dodgers," too, oddly enough.

But Lee Greenwood's proud to be a Merkin. So Stand the Fuck Up, Lee and thank your lucky stars your girlfriend got knocked up as a teenager. Yes, indeed.

What a patriot you are, Dude!
