"A gaffe is a noticeable, embarrassing mistake, social blunder, or tactless act, often occurring in public or diplomatic situations. It is characterized as a "faux pas" or an unintentional comment that causes embarrassment to the person who makes it."THIS WASN'T THAT. HE FUCKING MEANT IT, THERE WAS NO "MISTAKE" or "BLUNDER."
AND IT WASN'T A GODDAMNED "SLIP UP" EITHER.
This was Trump saying "I just ran out of the last fuck I might possibly give about Americans suffering financially."

(41,077 posts)That's 10% of our congressional dems. My rep speaks out frequently & passionately about these anti- democratic events, but my two dem senators keep mostly to issues & avoid much commentary on the fascist takeover.
Where's the unified voice of democratic outrage?

(1,013 posts)......Trumps pathetic and simplistic mindset on the entire issue of dealing with Iran. He just keeps repeating "Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon" and that's it, end of story. His understanding of this issue has no depth let alone nuance, just a repeated talking point for the chumps on the MAGA train and nothing else.

(3,990 posts)If the M$NOW can only bring themselves to call it a "gaffe", Fox and CBS will gush over how BRAVE it was to say this out loud. "You cannot have the enemy believing that your leader's hands are tied due to petty concerns like the financial situation of people back at home! It's a disadvantage in negotiations!"
Then they'll have panels of 3-4 talking heads, with each trying to one-up the other in terms of their effusive praise for how "brave" and "strong" it was of IQ47 to mouth these words. Fetterman will probably make an appearance in at least one of them.
And WaPo and NYT will probably publish op-eds tomorrow from people at Rand and the Heritage Foundation making the case that what he's REALLY REALLY doing is putting America First!
It will officially be a "nothingburger, overblown by TDS Democrats" across the entire M$M ecosystem by breakfast tomorrow, and never spoken of again within 24 hours.

(4,855 posts)He would be hungry and homeless! The problem began when they allowed him to set up Mara Largo as his home base corporate office and the White House as his clearing house for illegal profiteering! Since taking office he has considered every asset inside this country as his and his familys. His plan is to shake our savings into his pocket before leaving office!

(79,234 posts)It might be a gaffe in the limited sense that he should not have uttered anything that fucking stupid this close to the mid-terms, when some of the cult are beginning to wake up to the fact that their president does care about them in the least.

(1,256 posts)There are multiple ways to look at this.
1) He lacks empathy. Donald Trump only cares about Donald Trump.
2) May be tied to his childhood pastor, Norman Vincent Peale, and his positive thinking theology.
3) Combination of the two,.
Press needs to stop trying to normalize his behavior.

(3,496 posts)The fact that he clearly doesn't have a shred of empathy for the struggles of the American people shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who hasn't spent the last ten or so years in a deep coma. Trump gonna Trump. That's all he knows how to do. He's term limited so the last rickety guardrails are gone because he knows it's now or never.
But it's certainly a gaffe since he'd have been better off keeping his noise hole closed. It's the sort of gaffe that would very likely end the career of a normal (for want of a better term) politician. Sadly, his remark years ago about shooting someone on 5th Avenue turned out to be prophetic in the worst possible way. He's a gaffe machine unlike anyone in American politics but somehow the chickens never find their way back to the roost.
It's sincerely disheartening but here we are. All we can do at this point is try our hardest to make the people who rarely pay attention to politics realize just how dangerous he is, throw everything we've got at winning both houses in the midterms, and if we do secure them torpedo his agenda in Congress to slow the bleeding until he's out of office.
And if we're being truly honest, there are probably damned few politicians who genuinely, legitimately give a damn about the welfare of their constituents. As the old saying goes, their number one priority is getting into office, number two is staying there, and the welfare of their voters is a distant third place.
I'm sorry to be so cynical but that sure looks to be the norm in 21st century America.
