(1,523 posts)No sure how big of a cohort they represent and since they have been swinging harder to the left lately, they would probably be lumped in with the Democrats and divided up accordingly.

(55,239 posts)I was under the impression that the break-down of demographics of voters was 1/3 Democrat, 1/3 Republicans, and 1/3 Independents.
If a majority of Independents don't vote Republican that's more than 50 percent. And that's hoping they don't stay home on Election Days.

(23,833 posts)In many states, unaffiliated voters outnumber both republicans and democrats.
The only things that guide the partisan gerrymanderers are party registration, and the voting history of any particular precinct. Demographic information such as age, race, education can have some effect, but with the Trump-induced, Republican-enabled suffering spreading far and wide, crossing regional, racial and political boundaries, predicting the future behaviour of a particular group of voters in a particular area is going to get much more difficult.
