About identifying a giraffe on the Montreal Cognitive Test? Well, heres the exam and I dont see a giraffe.
Yeah, I know, maybe there are different versions, but this does make me go hmmmmm.

And although the fucking oxygen thief likes to tell lies about doing a series of arithmetic functions, the only vaguely, third-grade math question is to count back by 7 from 60.

Good lord, I have never hated a man so much in my life.

(82,092 posts)He should not constantly go on and on about the content of the test protocol.
This is supposed to be non disclosed to maintain the novel exposure
to subjects.

(38,775 posts)They are designed to be tests of gross cognitive losses - at a level significant enough that knowing the test ahead of time would make no difference.

(82,092 posts)1. Trump is giving much more exposure to the test contents than is typical with psych testing.
2. Prior exposure could significantly change the score.
Some people could be coached to gain points.
Ms. Toad
(38,775 posts)you are beyond coaching. I'm speaking as someone whose spouse scores a perfect 30 each time - AND - is diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment and taking wo Alzheimer's medications. (Her diagnosis was based on a full battery of tests over 2 days). Also as someone with a mother with much more advanced dementia who might still be able to pass the test but for the fact that she can't see or hear. The MOCA is simply a gross screening test.)
Go take the test yourself. Anyone of average intelligence over the age of 10-ish should be scoring 30/30. Well, maybe not 30/30 since the clock used is an analog clock and the young-uns might not have enough exposure to analog clocks to be able to properly draw numbers and hands at 5 past 10.

(82,092 posts)I am speaking as a PhD psychologist with a specialty in psych testing.
Spent over 40 years administering, scoring, interpreting psych tests
and writing reports for courts, school, employers, and government agencies.
But I am not going to teach a crash course on psychometrics.
And I don't need to take these tests, I helped do the norming for them
as a doctoral candidate.
Ms. Toad
(38,775 posts)which suggests that advance exposure to the MOCA (specifically - not psych tests generally, or "these" tests) impairs its validity as a screening tool for dementia (or any of the other conditions for which it is used).

(109,112 posts)What the GOP is doing is straight elder abuse. The only reason Trump is there is because they have no one else who has the star power that he does.
Ms. Toad
(38,775 posts)Your doctor doesn't have to administer any specific test - but if he chooses to use a test to make the cognitive assessment, the MOCA is a standard tool.
(This is an annual Medicare requirement, and most physicians follow the Medicare standard - even if the patient isn't on Medicare coverage.)
Irish_Dem
(82,092 posts)It is obvious that Trump is being administered cognitive tests frequently.
Because they are assessing his mental status every week it appears.
I also agree, this is elder abuse. Trump should be retired with no stress
and no responsibilities.
