A former model and real estate entrepreneur who publicly accused billionaire Jeffrey Epstein of sexual abuse has been reported missing in New York after family members lost contact with her nearly two weeks ago.

Elisabetta Tai Ferretto, a 50-year-old Italian native who has lived in New York since 2001, returned to Manhattan in early April after visiting family in the Veneto region, but daily calls with relatives suddenly stopped April 22, and her family reports she has not responded to attempts to contact her, The U.S. Sun reported.

Her social media accounts appear to have been deleted or deactivated, and her phone may have been disconnected, according to reports in Italian media.

Ferretto was among the first women to publicly detail allegations against Epstein. In 2019, she recounted an incident at his Manhattan home in 2004, when she believed she was attending a professional meeting that could advance her modeling career.

The case has also been passed to Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has activated diplomatic channels with US authorities.

American officials are now understood to be investigating, but Elisabetta has still not been found.

Elisabetta’s family said she had remained in regular contact with them until the day she disappeared.

They said the silence was completely out of character. No confirmed sightings or official explanation for her disappearance have yet been made public.

Elisabetta Tai Ferretto, 50, had not been heard from since 22 April, after her daily calls with her family suddenly stopped, according to multiple Italian outlets including La Stampa, one of Italy's oldest and most prominent national newspapers. The disappearance triggered a formal cross-border investigation involving Italian prosecutors, the Carabinieri, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and American authorities, before concluding with the news that Ferretto had been found.

The Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Este confirmed that Ferretto had been located in the United States and was in good health. The news was communicated to her family on the morning of Tuesday, 5 May. The searches, activated through diplomatic and international cooperation channels, concluded with the location of the woman in the United States.

The communication of her being found arrived from the Carabinieri of the Este Compagnia, in the lower Padovano, following searches activated through international cooperation channels. The notification had subsequently been transmitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
