They are deeply regretting the shutdown of their nuclear power plants.

It turns out that hybrid gas / solar / wind power systems were not a good replacement for nuclear power, especially when they have to buy the gas from Russia or import it as expensive LNG.

The alternative Is coal, and they have to import a lot of that too.

Places with aggressive renewable energy programs tend to have the most expensive electricity in the developed world. I should know, I live in California.

This is not any kind of conspiracy. It's physical reality. The sun and wind may be free, but integrating solar and wind power into a reliable electric grid is EXPENSIVE, even more so when you start adding batteries or hydroelectric storage to the mix.
