"Sir, have you been drinking tonight?" said the officer.

The man rolled down his window. He had bloodshot eyes and smelt of whiskey. His left hand had a silver watch on it. "No, sir," he said with a slurred voice. "I am not drunk."

The police officer wasn't having it. "Alright, son. If you're not drunk, can you tell the time for me?"

The man smiled and shook his intoxicated head. "Sure thing, sir." He turned to the watch on his left hand.

"The officer told me to tell you that I am not drunk."

“For excessive drinking” the officer replies.

“Great, when do we start?” asks the alcoholic.

Luckily for myself, I chose long ago to do all my drinking at home---

and my car is not running right now

However, it is very sad to see someone who rose so high
now being laid so low by alcohol....

And YES, of course, he shouldn't have been driving himself,
but the alcohol screws up your judgement....

the rest of us, as it seems none of us have been caught doing it,
so far as I have ever heard about......

"Keep your eyes on the horizon, instead of right in front of your car"
in such instances.... I discovered that in my youth---

and I SHOULD have been CAUGHT and put in jail---- but I managed to avoid it

agree with everything you said until the last line. He is almost 50. I get someone new to drinking, didn't realize the buzz, but he obviously is an experienced drinker. DoorDash, UberEats, if you are hungry or even want a 7-11 pickup. I just can't cut him slack on this one.
