The US Senate passed legislation early Friday to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security, forging a path to end a lengthy partial government shutdown that snarled airport security and threatened to ripple through an economy already roiled by the Iran war.
The bill, which still must be passed by the US House and signed by President Donald Trump, marks an abrupt reversal for Republicans, who had blocked similar proposals backed by Democrats to partially fund the department for weeks. The legislation passed the Senate by voice vote.
Ultra conservative House members were pushing back against the bill Friday, which would require a unanimous consent voice vote if it were to be done that same day.
Representative Chip Roy said they would seek to add immigration funds and a controversial voter ID measure to the deal and ask the Senate to agree to it next week.

(2,839 posts)...now that it clearly has unanimous support from the gop in the senate, youd think at least 5 GOP house members can get on board.
Hopefully Jojnson just holds the vote.
