https://jessica.substack.com/p/theyre-coming-for-our-daughtersMy daughter has had a difficult few months in school. By some administrative fluke, she ended up in a class where she was the only girlit was just Layla, surrounded by a dozen or so 15-year-old boys. She could have found it tolerable, I think, if not for the rape jokes.
Thats right, in the year 2026in a progressive Brooklyn high schoolmy daughter had to listen to her classmates joking about rape. These are boys she thought were her peers and friends, some of whom shes known since pre-school. And though the school ended up handling it well, I watched Laylas light dim a little every time she came home from that class. For her, it was a regular reminder that the world sees her as less human, less worthy of dignity. Just less.
Its a feeling I remember well, and one I couldnt stop thinking about this weekend as I considered conservatives plan for the next generation of girls and young women. Because what they have in store for our daughters isnt just about policy and politics, but dimming their collective lights.
A few weeks ago, the Heritage Foundationthe powerhouse organization behind Project 2025released a 250-year roadmap to save America. Written by authors with close ties to the Trump administration, the document is a how-to guide for subjugating girls and young women: a detailed plan to push them out of college, funnel them into early marriage and motherhood, and then trap them there.

(11,107 posts)Their ideology of suppression and dimming the lights of women and minorities is he only way they can see to maintaining dominance without actual skill or reason. They believe that the way forward is NOT to make everyone burn brighter as individuals or collectively, but to grant the unqualified and unearned positions of power because of birth or payment and thus turn down the brighter lights, sap their potential before they can take and claim victory by artificial means.
When others burn less brightly, the failed and unworthy scions of the plutocracy may temporarily appear brighter then their true abject mediocrity.
Its a short-sighted, urine-running-down-one's-leg approach and it is ultimately self-defeating when the international community begins to pull away from the US and its propped up moron Epstein Class of losers and fools.

I'm still a bit shellshocked to see how much we've regressed in such a short period of time. Naively I thought we were making considerable progress, at least until Trump rose to power. How can there be so many woman-hating men in the world?

(38,073 posts)That's part of why they've backed Trump. Normally, advancing their agenda is like slogging through waist-deep snow. Trump's a snowplow that lets them just race ahead.

(52,617 posts)to play the long game, which I think is why they often catch us off guard. I can see how a cretin like Trump could be the answer to their prayers.
I'll probably never understand the type of minds that could come up with this sort of crap - it is like they are a different species. I wonder if they root for the bad guys in movies.

(1,925 posts)I'll be 70 years old this week and I can't believe it took this long to understand the depth of cruelty, hate and absolute evilness of soul the ruling class posseses. I'm not naive and no stranger to sexual abuse. But when I put together the Franklin Scandal and the Trump/Epstein sex trafficking of children, and we started hearing the stories of the survivors and I went back and read up again about the Franklin satanic crap right here in good ole Nebraska I lost all faith. Everyone is dirty in high places and there is no limited supply of cruel people to serve them faithfully. I'm sick over this and I'm not sure I will ever be the same.
These evil creatures must be exposed and dealt with justly. This needs to be tried in an international court, a purge of sexual predators and hate filled misogynists.
This evil didn't die with Epstein it still happens to children everyday all over the world. I don't believe there are any species of ape that do what these men have done. And the women who helped!
I am so fucking angry and hopeless.

(52,617 posts)longer than Trump, though I think much is coming to the surface because of him and his many scandals.
I suppose I am mostly shocked and outraged by how prevalent it has been for so very long. Now I can look back on my life and see that it was everywhere, but rarely acknowledged or prosecuted. A whole lot of sweeping it under the rug to protect the men responsible. It probably wasn't all that hard, being they were the ones with all the power and money. Even worse, if it was exposed, the victims were often blamed.
Like you, I am also feeling angry and hopeless. To think I am sharing the planet with that kind of evil and as a woman, I really haven't come as long a way as I'd thought. At least I can console myself that I raised a really good man who is raising two remarkable boys.

What was the Red Menace of the Cold War? That a pack of radicals would take power, upend our institutions and way of life, take away our freedoms, diminish us in every way, and treat dissent like it was treason.
Have you ever read old anti-communist propaganda? Like, from the 1920s? Some of those would warn about the methods the commies would use to take over, and damn if Far Right outfits like Heritage aren't following that playbook exactly. Snooker people into going along with them, then once in positions to pull levers, shove them hard one way and then break them. Once in positions to enforce rules, only enforce the rules when they suit you, and let your peoples' illegal actions go right on by.
They're everything the Commie Boogeyman was supposed to be.

(8,651 posts)can be pretty patriarchal/misogynistic/abusive as well, but perhaps not as a political social engineering movement in affirmation of that gross dominance.
Each side's men will tell you that they are protectors of women, but we don't have this misogynist manifesto like heritage does. We just ride with it and take advantage of the patriarchy. Male privilege.
Deconstructing means more women in control at all levels until we can evolve to a symbiosis that isn't sabotaged by sexual dominance. I think progressive men still have a ways to go. And we have to step up more to counter institutionalized patriarchy and misogynist manifestos.

It's not that surprising, either, because this "Kinder, Küche, Kirche" rhetoric--once seen as fringe and marginal--has been increasingly mainstreamed by "think" tanks like Heritage and radtrad Catholic media (e.g. EWTN). And Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation, is known to be a fellow radtrad himself.

(13,340 posts)My granddaughter played hockey in the boys league for 4 years, and at 14 decided to go back to girls to have the opportunity to play women's hockey. Not once did she have a problem with any of the boys, even being the only girl on the team. She was accommodated with her own dressing room and would join the boys in their dressing room for the coaches talk before a game. If anything the boys were protective of her, especially if opposing teams decided to go after her.
I wouldn't expect any different.

(483 posts)This anecdote makes me sad even though I can see it happening inside and outside internet spaces. I fear its going to be hard to pull these boys back. Im sorry, but I feel a bit of a late night rant coming on. I had such high hopes after #metoo and BLM until this engineered and monetized social network of performative toxic masculinity and dehumanization of others caught fire. Theres even room to partially elevate the marginalized if they join in the bigotry and hate.
Dehumanization is a strong drug. It seems a lot of political and religious structures understand the power the few can accumulate and retain if they marginalize sizable groups by race, ethnicity, gender, or class. Gender or sex seems to historically be any easy target. Give males a privileged position and dominion over their future partner and children and see how much they will allow their church and state control their actions and livelihood. Bonus control if you can find a racial or religious other to scapegoat. Promise one segment a privileged set of moral rules and economic opportunities and they might not notice the foot thats on their neck in turn. What? I get to objectify and demean others now and forever? I am guaranteed the biggest piece of chicken at dinner in my house and any shortcomings in my life are attributable to the failure of my government to sufficiently marginalize the marginalized? Sign me up. At least one step back. I cant wait until the two steps forward part.
