Request to the Media, do not put Olympic results in the headlines

Just tell us the results are in the article.
Some of us actually want to watch for the sports to see what happens.
Giving away the results is just an asshole move.

Headlines generally highlight the most important part of the article, especially when it comes to straight news stories. WhiskeyGrinder 20 hrs ago #6

Yes, that would seem to be wise if you truly value not seeing the outcome before it airs tritsofme 19 hrs ago #10

No I did not.
I said put the results in the article, not the headline.
It is a disservice to the readers.
I suppose you don't mind movie reviews that give away the ending in the title either.

There's a pretty big difference between a news event and a movie. I'm also not a big movie-goer so the comparison doesn't really hit.

are the same as a Congressional vote.
I don't.
This is sports, which people watch for enjoyment and because the outcome isn't known.

I get it, you don't like movies, you don't like sports.
How about a review of a Mystery Novel that tells the ending in the title.

I don't either, but I do know that journalism has its own rules, and "ski slalom happens" is just not good practice for a headline hours after the game is over.

This is sports, which people watch for enjoyment and because the outcome isn't known.
People watch games they know the outcome of quite a bit, as evidenced by reruns of entire games that are available on various streaming sites.

I get it, you don't like movies, you don't like sports.
I do like some movies, I just don't have strong feelings about spoilers. I do love sports, though, both watching and playing.

Time-shifting during the Olympics is a continuing problem. The news media deliver the news as close to the time it happens as they can.

What happens in Italy happens 7 hours before I'm at the same time. So, I don't expect the news media to withhold the news until I am up and watching. They just won't do that, and we shouldn't expect them to.

Time zones happen.

Can't they say: "Here are the Olympic results" and let those who want to read the article.

It's a big story, though. It has been on all the morning TV and radio news. I heard about it at 6 AM on my AM hourly news. My wife had told me about it about 15 minutes earlier when she woke me up.

It's big enough news that it got broadcast at the top of the news everywhere.

Sorry, but nobody asked me, either.

But now, with PEACOCK'S showing the LIVE EVENTS the headlines are going to report the results in Real Time.

No medium is going to refuse to grab eyeballs ASAP.

The last time the Olympics were held in West Coast time the peabrains in charge of network coverage decided that they would delay showing the coverage until East Coast prime time - which meant the claimed "live" events were aired in the West a day after they actually occurred. Why? Either because they think US viewers are all idiots or their afraid to lose any potential advertising revenue. It's their poor coverage of these kind of events that makes me wish the BBC or other overseas carrier would offer world-wide coverage for major sports events, even if I do have to pay more
