Sen. Chris Murphy Threatens Partial Government Shutdown Over Minneapolis ICE Shooting
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said on social media on Wednesday his party should not vote to fund the Department of Homeland Security without reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, essentially threatening to partially shut down the federal government over the issue.

"Democrats cannot vote for a DHS budget that doesn’t restrain the growing lawlessness of this agency," Murphy wrote in response to a video of an ICE agent fatally shooting a woman in Minneapolis.

Funding for much of the federal government, including DHS, is set to expire at the end of January.

It's not clear if large number of Democrats will back Murphy's stance. Most members of the party seem eager to cut a deal with the GOP to keep the government open, rather than shut the government down for a second time in President Donald Trump's second administration.
