Yes, it's obscene and will be removed. But it is amusing that Donald is too stupid to know what memorial means. If only . . .

(174,319 posts)Itâs worth describing what transpired at the Kennedy Center today accurately:

The presidentâs operation just vandalized one of the nationâs premier performing arts centers. www.ms.now/rachel-maddo...

While were at it, we could draw attention to the fact that the fonts dont exactly match and given the Republican administrations interest in type settings, this is tough to overlook while simultaneously noting the encouraging fact that the placement of Trumps name will make it easy to take it down in the future without disturbing the original lettering.....

(12,663 posts)...anything decent this nation ever accomplished. A man who allied himself with Immoral, Un-American, Christian Nationalists who were hellbent on corrupting the institutions and processes by which our will is measured and made manifest.
And that would just be the start of the eulogy that man's life has earned.
May his legacy be a complete transformation of the broken system that gave rise to him.
A ban on PACs. Law reversing Citizens United. Meaningful limits on campaign contributions. Ethics reform on a scale never before seen. No more gerrymandering. Laws that ensure the most free and fair elections we have ever had. Massive fines for any jurisdiction that under-allocates resources in ways that create waits of more than an hour to vote.
Prosecution of the criminals who have violated the public trust to enrich themselves, obstructed constitutional protections, violated separation of powers...
So much more...

(40,865 posts)What Black person could ever have been elected to office if such a law were in place in the Sixties (I'm sure they were in some states)? Any local Sheriff or Chief of Police could destroy a campaign.

(125,147 posts)While I don't claim the justice system is fair, I believe that it will take more than some weak legal charges to use that strategy. The process of reading an indictment from the grand jury and scheduling the trial is going to last longer than a political campaign.

(40,865 posts)It's true in more places than it's not. Only in really high profile cases does the unjustly accused stand a fighting chance.
Politics and "justice" are always more corrupt at the local level, where there's the least scrutiny. There are plenty of famous wrongful convictions in the historical record; pardons and retrials are the exception, not the rule.

(797 posts)that makes him unqualified to hold the office, which is the one tha bars insurrectionists. He was an adjudicated insurrectionist in Colorado. Then SCOTUS said he could be on the ballot. However, he remained unqualified Constitutionally. So SCOTUS could do the same for felons, despite an amendment barring them. The issue remains: how do we keep elected but literally unqualified people from assuming office? In my view an amendment would not suffice.
