Dear Xxxxx

Hurricane Melissa — now the second-strongest storm ever recorded — is churning through the Caribbean, with Jamaica directly in its path. Winds exceeding 185 miles per hour, storm surges up to 13 feet, and as much as 40 inches of rain threaten to devastate the island and surrounding nations. The storm has already caused deadly flooding and landslides across Haiti and the Dominican Republic, claiming lives and displacing thousands.

There’s no overstating it: the impacts of Melissa will be catastrophic. Thousands are expected to lose access to healthcare and safe drinking water, and many will face serious physical and emotional trauma in the weeks to come.

Direct Relief is mobilizing in response. The organization has committed $250,000 in financial assistance and made its entire medical inventory available to health providers throughout the Caribbean. Additional shipments — including field medic packs for first responders and personal care supplies for displaced families — are already being prepared.
Support Hurricane Relief
Over the past five years, Direct Relief has shipped more than 75 tons of medical aid to Jamaica and invested over $3 million in solar backup systems, generators, and mobile health units to strengthen the island’s health infrastructure.

To ensure medical care continues when supply lines are cut off, Direct Relief pre-positions Hurricane Preparedness Packs throughout the region. Six Hurricane Preparedness Packs, each containing enough medical aid to treat 3,000 people for one month, are already staged in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Panama —with additional aid ready for deployment alongside the Pan American Health Organization.

Because of your support, Direct Relief can act quickly when disasters strike—and remain as communities recover.

Thank you for being a part of this effort.

With gratitude,
Alexa
