I realize that I'm not likely to influence the positions of two right wing Senators, but I am on an ACA health plan where I receive a $750 subsidy which is about to end. I wanted to add my voice at a critical time and add to the pressure that they must be receiving.
I tried to frame my comments as if I was someone who could potentially vote for them, but was pressured by this issue, as that seemed like the best way to be heard. In truth, I moved to Kansas City from Boston and I detest these guys. The first thing at the top of Senator "Doc" Marshall's web page says, "Trump is enjoying having Democrats standing on their heads spinning like tops", which is insanely beneath the dignity of what a US Senator's constituent outreach page should look like.
But, it seems that this is the time that Republican lawmakers should be receive as many constituent messages about this as possible. I made a mistake and said that people in the top brackets have received a $400 million/year tax break when it is actually $400 thousand, but maybe factual errors can help me look more like a potential Trump supporter.
Dear Senator Moran,
I am a constituent of yours and have lived in Overland Park for nearly 5 years. I am on an ACA health insurance plan through United Healthcare for which I pay $590 per month and a subsidy had paid the remainder. That subsidy is about to expire and I will not be able to afford the plan.
I am asking for you to be one of the people in government that helps their constituents and does something to extend this subsidy before it is too late. The President has proposed $40 billion in aid to Argentina. You have enacted a tax cut of $400 million per year for people in the highest brackets.
As a working class American, I am asking for you to be someone who helps me. In the last year, whole government agencies were eliminated. What is the point of that if you can't pass on some of that savings to American citizens?
There are budget proposals before you now which would do this. Instead of merely continuing the subsidies, you could even significantly increase them and take credit for it as a Republican measure and flip the whole narrative about this. It would be very popular. You could point out that you are returning some of the cuts you have made to foreign aid and other things to the American people.
At a minimum, please do not allow my subsidy to expire. I am a 61 year old American citizen whose ancestors came here over 120 years ago. I'm paying $590/month now; I'm not asking for a free ride. Please do not force me to switch to some kind of catastrophic coverage because it is all I can afford.
I am not very political, but I am aware of where my representatives stand on this issue, as are millions of hard working Americans.
Sincerely,
Klarkashton

(76 posts)People REALLY need to wrap their heads around that and understand that the corporate/insurance gangsters and their political stooges (you can pull FEC data to see which insurance terrorists donate to particular politicians) already won long ago. Now it's just carcass generating times.
It's a SYSTEMIC problem and I'd be curious to see which politicians (either side) feed at the insurance industry campaign donation trough, but I don't have the energy.

(1,823 posts)Senator "Doc" Marshall (what he calls himself on his website) has dropdown category menus on his website if you want to leave him a message. He does have one for "health", but I chose the one titled "American rights" because it's a reactionary title that's probably intended for the queers are coming to take my guns or something. At least he'll get one message that's actually relevant to the category.
