Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

(1,086 posts)... and cars, etc., I point out that a 2022 DoD report found that 286,000 service members faced food insecurity in 2020 and 2021, with 14% reporting they had used government food assistance programs in the past year. Not exactly the deadbeat demographic are they? When you add in the people working multiple jobs and still needing assistance, who knows what the total numbers are? I was on food stamps once when my ex wouldn't pay child support. And I had a job.
I shudder to think what's going to happen in November. We donate to Harvesters and take groceries to our neighborhood food bank. I know it's a drop in the bucket and there are going to be people in real trouble.

Our farmers can produce better and varied foods that are affordable. We don't have to spend as much money scraping dead human remains off the streets and out of the alleys. Our children can have a better shot at education while meeting nutritional standards.
It's weird to me that people see some down side from food security.
