The King just decreed it, so it must be so:

Constitution 101:

States run their own elections; that's how YOUR party has cheated so many times. Who's the moron now?

I think allowing states to run their own federal elections is a mistake.
If states want to run their own elections for sewer inspector, fine. But for federal office, there should be federal standards that can't be run over by the supremacist court.

more Federal interference. Yes, Federal courts have a role, but most issues still have to be adjudicated by State Courts first, and that is fine by me. Most states have taken pride in their secretaries of state and all the local registrars at the county level. Yes, there are occasional issues--especially given Trump and his ilk's interference. But thus far, most issues have been resolved, and those who would bastardize the system have been held in check. Nowhere is that more true than in Colorado, where a Republican prosecutor joined our Democrat Secretary of State to go after Mesa County's Tina Peters--the notorious, corrupt local registrar now in jail for 9 years--who joined with the pillow guy to allow illegal access to the systems in her county (immediately caught by our Secretary of State). If your suggestion of Federal oversight came to pass, she would be out because Trump has done everything possible to make that happen--even threatening both the Governor (who can but will not pardon her) and the state of Colorado in general.

NO. Absolutely no more Federal interference. Follow the Constitution.

But I have seen too many red states disenfranchise and gerrymander their way to one party rule, and the supremacist court for thirty years has only grown more complicit.

7. Respectfully, that is two separate, albeit related issues. Gerrymandering is the state legislature & governor...

Election oversight falls to the Secretary of State and local registrars, backed by the courts, and the State AG and local prosecutors. There has always been and remains somewhat of a "Chinese Wall" between these functions. Those overseeing the election have no involvement in decisions regarding redistricting. Conversely, the State Legislature and Governor do not have a direct role in the conduct of the election--unless something very unusual has happened or the elected SOS is somehow removed from the picture.

That is the way it has worked throughout our history. Yes, I'm pissed about gerrymandering, but this is a separate issue from other areas of state and local government involved in the conduct of the elections.
