Removing toxic people from your life ...

"Removing toxic people from your life does not mean that you hate them, it means that you respect yourself” Quote I found somewhere about a year ago and have embraced enthusiastically. A good buddy just called me and I begrudgingly answered. He asked why I’ve been so absent it’s been almost a year since we’ve talked. I told him straight up I cannot tolerate your lifestyle or viewpoints and want nothing to do with you. He said wow you’re gonna let your TDS ruin a 30-year friendship brother?!? Dude you goto Tucker/Flynn rallies, and Kirk and Candace rallies, and you pay to get in. It’s not my TDS that’s ruined our friendship it’s your MFP! WTF is MFP? Mass Formation Psychosis, go look it up. Click. Follow-up text from him “I’m shocked I can’t believe that just happened!” Block caller.

IMHO if anyone proclaims or accuses me or anyone of TDS, they cannot be reasoned with. Uttering TDS is the most intellectually and emotionally lazy thing you can say to me or anyone with a brain and a heart. But I also embrace my acute TDS, if someone pokes at me I just smile and nod - but it’s really not worth engaging anyone who mutters it.

2. Yes. I've had to cut some relatives out of my life.

When I did that, I told them why. I don't have enough years left to deal with people who wish me and others ill. Sorry, but I'm not going to participate any longer.

I would love to see him removed. Is he dead yet?

6. A few years ago, I was trying to recalibrate my life and listening to "happiness" podcasts.

It occurred to me, as my blood pressure rose while listening, that shitty relationships were a huge problem for me.

At the time, my son bought his own house and was renovating it prior to moving it. We were refinishing the hardwood floors and he was in a foul mood and taking it out on me. I basically told him that I was here to help but I didn't need to hear his bullshit. I followed up with - recognize that I'm here to help and we're making progress or I can go home.

It was an eye-opener for him - and me too.

He wasn't the only person close to me who took advantage of my goodwill, but he was the one I didn't want to shut out. For several others, including "close" family, I've cut back on time spent with them - some completely.

It's hard enough these days without their bullshit.

7. That's the only way I could get my message through -- their views are abhorrent and beyond the pale

They crossed a line voting for that filth and threaten my safety and security, my very existence even.
