If a woman is nominated and isn't that person, they will lose again. Same with a man.

(28,218 posts)It strikes me as sad that a person can be the most rabid "Christian" out there and be elected by a landslide. Meanwhile agnostics don't stand a chance, and atheists don't dare exist and run for office.
I know, from the post this guy isn't using his religion to divide, the way the vast majority do, but still. I would love to see more self-proclaimed atheists and agnostics running for office.

(1,482 posts)HRC was one of the most disliked Democratic candidates in history -yet she still won the popular vote.
VP Harris didn't have the benefit of a full campaign. She got thrown into a Presidential election with little prior notice and had to do a lot on the fly. She was also saddled with Biden's policies by the Republicans. It was a weird situation where she was the incumbent (for practical purposes) and had inadequate time to prepare.
I haven't researched this, but there are those that claim she won. Win or lose, she did well under adverse circumstances.
I don't think either HRC or VP Harris are adequate test cases for the electability of women generally.

The Democratic Party is 50 years behind in tactics and strategy and has no answer to the racist nihilism of the Right. There are individuals in the party who get it, but too many still refer to their "colleagues" and not to the betrayers of democracy and due process in service to the rot of a racist criminal.

Luckily, I can't say Al Franken, because he and Amy are from the same state. Mark Kelly would be an excellent choice, but he's a friend, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit biased. Maybe Andy Beshear? And that's only if he isn't the nominee already. Gavin Newsom is probably TOO high a profile, if there is such a thing, The whole speculation is rather premature anyway. His ticket won, so there were no recriminations, and everybody acted like an adult. But some felt that the Midwest was closer than it should have been, and that not picking Klobuchae was something he should not have let himself get talked into. All water under the bridge now, though, and it's the midterms and 2028 that has to occupy our attention, not coulda woulda shoulda from five years ago.

(21,127 posts)Unfortunately, the powers that be will likely restrict the 2028 nominee to a straight white male not named Shapiro or Newsom.
The DNC is currently drawing up plans for the primary schedule for 2028, including whether to abandon tradition and not have IA and NH go first. The states that are selected to go first will have an impact on the media narrative of which candidate has momentum and will impact fundraising ability.
My personal favorite would be Gretchen Whitmer, so I expect that Michigan will not be among the early primary states in 2028.
On the other hand, I expect there will be several women running for the 2028 republican nomination- Noem, MTG, maybe even Liz Cheney. I wouldnt be surprised if a woman is the VP nominee.

(3,494 posts)the women's vote for trump, I have come away seeing a large resentment against strong women competing in a male dominated world, by the sentiment that women's subservience to a guide and provider, holds sway.
That cadre is much larger than I could have imagined growing up with a strong mother and two powerful sisters.
I have falsely assumed women strive for independence and self sufficiency set by the examples in my household.
I was mislead by the strong black women I taught in high school. I thought their resilience in spite of the obstacles in their way, would resonate more broadly in women across the nation.
I was wrong. The percentage of women voting, especially white women, for trump, floored me.
People are afraid here. Even men, of losing opportunity.
Trump plays that like a drum.
Even the oligarchs are marching in lockstep knowing full well the consequences of their actions.
We are in an unpredictable transition.

And I do not care what's on the party platform on a website that no one reads. If there's one thing Trump does better than Dems it's self-branding. Dems come off as the party that only cares about how diverse the aristocracy is. Rebrand yourself so people think you care more about working people than how many women Fortune 500 CEOs there are.

(1,811 posts)then we will lose again in 2028. I have the highest respect for Harris. But the country already had a chance to weigh on her as a presidential candidate. They chose Trump over a highly qualified Black woman, despite having lived through his utter incompetence for a previous 4 years.
We would be completely insane to run ANY candidate who has already run in the general and lost. We should not run Hillary again. We should not run Al Gore again. We should not run Kamala Harris again. The country has had a chance to vote on all of those options and said NO THANKS!
We need to offer up a brand new ticket. If Harris still wants to be involved, I'm sure there's a great cabinet position for her.
