Portland isn't 'burning down,' the president is lying.

Trump once again claims Portland ‘is burning down.’ It’s not

Donald Trump once again said that Portland “is burning down” on Tuesday, this time from the Oval Office.

“I looked at Portland over the weekend,” Trump said, speaking from his desk. “The place is burning down. Just burning down.”

It should be noted that while an RV fire did destroy a vehicle and damage some buildings in Southeast Portland on Friday, Portland is not in fact burning down.

...Trump also agreed in response to a question about whether he now intends to deploy troops everywhere around the nation since the Portland appeals court ruling lets him deploy the Oregon National Guard in that state.

That court ignored the peaceful period of time in Portland that coincided with Trump's initial order in which there were very few incidents, and nothing that the local police couldn't handle, and instead in their findings, went back even further to dredge up an incident that resulted in about 12 arrests; also effectively handled by local cops.

More than just that sophistry from the two republican appointed judges on the court, their ruling centered on giving the Executive in the WH the power to just make shit up and deploy troops against Americans based on their fantasies; Trump's contradicting what it shouldn't take any expertise from anyone to recognize with our own eyes that his repeated declaration that "Portland is burning down" is blatantly false and deliberately inciting.

That deference given by the republican judges to pure lies from the President of the United States is more than just an abrogation of their responsibilities and their oath of office - it's deliberate collusion with the clear criminality perpetrated by the Chief Executive against the American people.

Make no mistake, these judges who are enabling Trump's open contempt for the law of the land are violating the Constitution right along with him, knowing full well that there's a maga mob on the Supreme Court eager and waiting to rubberstamp Donald Trump's exercise of absolute authority with the impunity they all bestow on themselves in the process.

I'm not optimistic that the courts will restrain Trump from imposing his rule on Americans through the intimidation of our own military and militarized government forces, mainly because their own autocratic power and ability depends on maintaining the regime that's enabling them.

Likewise, Trump and his regime have gone too far past the point where they can expect to be safe from prosecution beyond this regime in power, so they're now desperately motivated to do whatever they are able to keep Trump and his republican rubber stamping enablers in office.

For their opportunistic purpose, one contrived fantasy deserves another.

President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday: “I looked at Portland over the weekend. The place is burning down, just burning down.” Trump noted that an appeals court on Monday overturned one of the two rulings that have temporarily blocked his attempt to deploy National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon, then added: “You look at a place like Portland, it’s just — it’s ridiculous, when they say that there’s no problem. The place is — it was on fire over the weekend.”

But Portland was nothing remotely resembling “burning down” over the weekend. It still wasn’t when Trump made these comments on Tuesday. And it wasn’t when Trump made such claims on previous occasions over the last month.

Photos of Portland over the weekend — including shots of an anti-Trump “No Kings” protest that was peacefully attended Saturday by tens of thousands of people — show a city very much intact and not ablaze. Portland city spokesperson Cody Bowman said the fire department was never even dispatched over the weekend to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building that has been the center of protest activity in recent months.

It’s possible that Trump saw images of small fires that started near the ICE building on Saturday after federal agents deployed tear gas and smoke devices to disperse protesters there. The Oregonian newspaper reported Tuesday in a debunking of Trump’s latest “burning down” claims: “Federal agents used tear gas against the crowd and sparks from canisters set several small fires, but rain and a lack of fuel quickly extinguished them.”
