Trump-GOP Giveaway to Big Pharma Will Hit Taxpayers With $9 Billion in Higher Drug Costs

Get ready to pay more, through the nose, MAGA, in out-of-pocked costs for drugs your "savior" promised he'd CUT.

Trump-GOP Giveaway to Big Pharma Will Hit Taxpayers With $9 Billion in Higher Drug Costs - Common Dreams “Donald Trump and Republicans are selling out America’s seniors,” said one advocate.

A major pharmaceutical industry handout that Republicans—with the support of one Senate Democrat—included in President Donald Trump’s signature legislative package is expected to cost US taxpayers nearly twice as much as originally expected, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said in an updated analysis released Monday.

The budget office said it now expects the provision of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act to cost $8.8 billion over the next 10 years.

Merith Basey, executive director of Patients for Affordable Drugs Now, said in response to the updated CBO analysis that “the ORPHAN Cures Act is a wildly expensive handout to Big Pharma that will harm patients, drain taxpayer dollars, and weaken the government’s ability to rein in high drug prices.”

“Any support for these bills goes against the will of the 90% of Americans who want Congress to go further to lower drug prices—not facilitate another handout to Big Pharma,” said Basey.

It can difficult to make our cases to the general public when leveraging known liberal outlets like Common Dreams, Raw Story, and the like, so it would be cool to have a story from a major outlet to share with people.

Oh, what am I saying? All our media is dependent on advertising from Big Pharma. Probably won't even see anyone cover it on MSNBC. Wouldn't want to derail the gravy train

like Rawstory, Common Dreams, and the like can be cross checked and verified (excepting opinion pieces), by those who care to,

who misses the "out to lunch" LAMEstreamers who normalized sht like this, anyway... When the"liberal outlets" were trying wake America the fk up?

I know I sure don't. The LSM is why we're dealing with a fascist administration now.

And don't get me wrong, I'm VERY glad we have these sources. It's just I often share stories from here elsewhere online and if I can find a more mainstream source covering a story, I'll usually favor that or at least include it as addt'l confirmation in such posts

your post brought to mind a couple of past commentaries that (unlike yours) were critical of decidedly liberal news sources, which, coming from members of a decidedly liberal (if not progressive) forum always took me aback.

I'm very glad we have those alternative source too.

ESPECIALLY since, given the now quite apparent "capitulation" (I think was the word used by Kamala) to Trump, MAGA, and his henchmen,

the cowardice, the complicity, the normalizing or turning a blind eye to the demolition of our institutions, our democracy by much of the so-called "mainstream media,"

it is THEY who have become LESS reliable, imo.

I am in insulin dependent diabetic on a variety of meds for high blood pressure and other thing. Just cancelled a refill of my high blood pressure meds since the refill cost went from $17 to over $2000. No explanation. I am going to call the pharmacy today trying to find out why.

any of the newer communications from insurers and healthcare providers is any indication.

Less coverage, fewer options for the insured, greater out of pocket expenses.

Now, during open enrollment (thru Dec. 7) is the time to get thee to Medicare.gov (assuming you're of age) and shop insurance plans, for coverage, and out of pocket expenses for primary care visits, in and out of network coverage, and out of pocket prescription costs. etc. etc. etc.

You can compare costs between straight Medicare (with or without optional coverages) and the "advantage" programs offered by different... outfits.

Still Have 4.5 years before I am eligible for Medicare. On employee health care coverage. Just had open enrollment and my rates went up by about 5%. Way less than I was expecting.
