Israel takes steps to shut down international aid groups in Gaza and the West Bankhttps://www.npr.org/2025/10/21/nx-s1-5580351/israel-humanitarian-aid-ngos-
AMMAN, Jordan Israel, having banned the United Nations aid agency for Palestinian refugees from sending aid and staff to Gaza, is now taking unprecedented steps to de-register major nongovernmental aid groups for ideological reasons, according to several officials of humanitarian organizations.
They say the new rules threaten the ability of some of the biggest international nongovernmental organizations known as INGOs to send in aid or staff to both Gaza and the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
The ceasefire agreement in the Gaza war brokered this month by President Trump committed Israel to a surge in aid into Gaza, where food security experts declared famine in parts of the territory. But Israel continues to severely restrict crossings open for aid shipments and who can send aid through them. Of seven Israeli border crossings with Gaza, only two are currently open. Of those that are open, the U.N. and nongovernmental aid groups say many requests to enter Gaza are routinely rejected, without explanation.
Trucks loaded with humanitarian aid on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing wait to cross into the Gaza Strip early on Wednesday.

This is important news, touching on US politics, war, death, prospect for middle east peace, ethnic cleansing, etc.. I don't understand why the information in this article isn't at least mentioned in MSM and discussed, let alone substantiated and reported out as news.
Also didn't know that 90% of homes in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed.

(3,887 posts)It's a bit better now, because really, what choice do they have? But the damage has been done. IMO the media created the buy-in and "permission" for Israel to go full scorched-earth and we see the result, it's very tragic.
You need to go to independent and alternative media to get the view from the other side. Sadly, not many people do.
I had read about the "new criteria" for aid agencies a few months ago. It's clear to me it's just another tactic Israel has created to slow-down and obstruct aid - adding to the dozens it already employs. None of those obstruction tactics have magically disappeared with the "peace plan" - which of course didn't address the issue in the first place, leaving lots of wiggle room for Israel to keep starving Palestinians.
The destruction of UNRWA - based on smears and allegations for which evidence was not provided - was one of my biggest concerns throughout this "war". It heralded the destruction of Gaza and Palestinians more than anything else, and of course it led to the ongoing malnutrition and starvation.
Think about it: UNRWA has 3 MONTHS worth of food stockpiled - enough to feed the whole population - but Israel will not let them bring it in. Not just food but tents (winter's coming), medicine, fuel for cooking, hygiene products for basic human dignity etc.
What Israel and Trump want to do is delegitimize traditional, established aid agencies, especially the UN's UNRWA but now others as well, like the much-respected Norwegian Refugee Council - anyone who has ever expressed any sympathy for Palestinians or called Israel to account - and replace them with their toadies and "Christian" (fundie, pro-Israel) aid groups with little or no experience. Thus ensuring the continued suffering and starvation.
It's a travesty of all humanitarian laws and its disgusting. No other "civilized" nation would be allowed to do this. Further, no civilized nation or "democracy" WOULD do this.
