About ten years ago I got a business phone which had the number of a former Verizon customer. For nearly ten years I've been getting calls asking for "Laurie," texts from her lowlife friends, requests for contributions to her right wing causes, from Donald Trump Jr., the NRA.... the list goes on and on.
For about the last five years I've been responding with appropriate contempt.
Today a text came identifying itself as coming from the orange pedophile himself, asking me to... I didn't read further. I simply responded "Release the Epstein files and stop vandalizing the people's house.
Within a minute a text came back. "You have successfully unsubscribed."
A little victory.

(3,641 posts)from ME senate candidate Graham Platner in which he stated that we all know most Democrats "aren't doing jack" to fight back against fascism.
I responded "Stop badmouthing the party from whom you want support." And I was unsubscribed.

(50,154 posts)Otherwise, you can unsubscribe from any legit robo texting list by replying "STOP".
If it's a spammer harassing you, then you can forward the messages to "7726" to report it to your carrier as spam. They can block problem spammers in the back end.

(5,366 posts)She is an older lady named Doloris. I think she must spend her days looking at ads for weight loss, cars, kitchen gadgets etc. I answer the calls for Doloris simply by saying "you have the wrong number". I don't get nearly as many as I used to get.
Will keep this trick in mind and deploy whenever needed!

(30,427 posts)Thanks so much for my first deep laugh of the day. I'm a little behind schedule on laughing today. But I plan to retain the upward curve for as long as possible.
Thanks again. ❤️

(150,016 posts)I've had that Verizon number for 21 years now. There's a very old phone number list circulating out there.
I sometimes play games with callers. That's bad of me. I know...

(2,657 posts)I had better luck. My work cell-phone number apparently formerly belonged to someone named Elke, who, to all appearances, was a democrat in the Portland area, so I didn't bother to go through and unsubscribe from everything she apparently signed up for. Now that I look, it appears I haven't received a message for her in 5 months now, after having that number for over a decade. So whatever voter lists Portland Antifa is using for No Kings rally planning, maybe they got a more updated one from somewhere.

(1,311 posts)Michael Bennett asking for my financial support for his campaign for the Democratic nomination to run for governor of Colorado in 2026. I replied to the email that I am financially supporting the campaign of current Colorado Democratic AG Phil Weiser for governor (true fact. Weiser is more liberal than Bennett.). I haven't heard back from the Bennett campaign since.
