The company that is demolishing part of the White House to make space for President Donald Trumps ballroom has been flooded with negative reviews online by people angry at the partial destruction of the East Wing.
Destroying The Peoples House with no regard for their permission, a one-star review on Google Maps reads. Deplorable act no matter the reason.
Dozens of people who gave the Maryland-headquartered demolition contractor, Aceco LLC, one-star reviews in the last few hours alone have similar feelings.
Newsweek contacted Aceco by email for comment on Tuesday morning outside of standard working hours.

Perhaps a few pounds of sugar in the fuel tanks is in order to help stop this crime against We the People and OUR property.
Fucking ogre needs to be evicted and I don't care how as long as it's brutal.

(74,923 posts)I suppose your "few pounds" could clog a fuel filter, but since it's completely insoluble in gasoline, it just sits in the bottom of the tank
If it gets to the engine, it will burn just like the gas, albeit releasing only around 40% of the energy per unit mass.
Sugar in the gas tank is mostly an urban myth.
Now, concentrated sulfuric acid is another story, but much more dangerous to mess with than sugar.

(11,370 posts)but it is subject to its own set of federal reviews and approvals. Federal projects, like those at the White House, operate under different rules than public projects and are not subject to local building codes or the need to obtain permits from local jurisdictions like the District of Columbia Department of Buildings. Instead, they must undergo a review process involving the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) and other federal bodies, though the White House may assert its own authority and may not seek approval for certain projects.
No local permits: The White House is a federal property, and federal entities are not required to get permits from local authorities when working on their own properties.
Internal and federal reviews: The White House is subject to federal reviews and oversight, particularly from the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) for major projects, though its authority can be contested or superseded.
Specific project reviews: Projects are reviewed for aesthetics and environmental impacts, and the White House has sometimes asserted that it doesn't need approval for certain demolition or construction work, even as some reports indicate that federal law requires review of any exterior construction project.
Security is the priority: Safety and security are paramount, and the US Secret Service can intervene to prevent any construction that could jeopardize the President or Vice President.

(6,855 posts)being asked about this demolition? Totally contradictory to what he said last time he was asked... which was during the first "term" back in 2016, and wanted to move the WH to Mar-a-Lago.
With the total lack of care or respect he's showing by doing this... and, with NONE of the mandatory approvals... I'd say he still hates the WH no matter what he said a couple of days ago. The man lies as easily as some people breathe.
Me... I'm just heartsick. First, paving over the beautiful rose garden, and now this... which is exactly what he said he'd NOT do... that is, he said it was going to be "next to" the East Wing, but that the East Wing, itself, would not be touched... the ballroom wouldn't impact the East Wing in any way. Yeah... somebody show me something else he swears is "truth." He wouldn't know truth if it came up and bit him in his quite ample butt.

For reference: https://www.miningnewsnorth.com/story/2025/06/20/news/volvo-expands-us-equipment-manufacturing/9132.html
To better serve its North American customers, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is expanding heavy equipment production at its factory in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
snip
"This increase in production capacity means that over 50% of our North American machine supply can be built here in Shippensburg, resulting in shorter lead times while also creating opportunities for supplier growth," said Scott Young, head of Region North America at Volvo CE.
Alongside the expansion, the Swedish equipment manufacturer will be modernizing the Pennsylvania factory. These upgrades include the installation of new assembly lines, integration of automation, and training workers to prepare them for the expanded production.

(31,829 posts)One of the first acts of the new Democratic presidency should be the destruction of trump's disgraceful changes to the White House---all of them: the ballroom, that horrible concrete-and-umbrella replacement of the rose garden, all the cheap-ass gold interior monstrosities, and banishment of all images of trump, his filthy family, and his criminally-inept associates. If public funds are required to accomplish the foregoing and I'm still around, I'll give what I can...

I'm sure a permit never occurred to trump, even though he's supposedly in the property management business. One night I stayed up late examining the finances on how he did property management and I found out that he screwed up so much he had to waive his property management fees many, many times. This was back when they had that judge monitoring his businesses. Can't remember her name--hope it comes back to me.

(29,820 posts)The page reports inaccuracies and that the Southern Poverty Law Center reported 3 years ago that the magazine had taken a hard right turn. However, that's not necessarily Wikipedia's position, just the SPLC's.
The Ad Fontes Media's Media Bias Chart rates Newsweek a centrist publication, which means there will be conservative pieces as well as liberal pieces. Ad Fontes Media is an independent organization that was started by a lawyer in Denver who started developing her methodology to determine bias in 2015. As a librarian, this is my go-to source for media bias as it's updated and sources are reevaluted on an ongoing basis with a team of evaluators from all over the political spectrum.
To see the Media Bias Chart: https://app.adfontesmedia.com/chart/interactive?utm_source=adfontesmedia&utm_medium=website
You might have to type "Newsweek" in the search box to get its rating.
To read what they have to say about Newsweek specifically, including an explanation of methodology and recent examples: https://adfontesmedia.com/newsweek-bias-and-reliability/

☒ a policy or guideline
☒ a list of pre-approved sources that can always be used without regard for the ordinary rules of editing
☒ a list of banned sources that can never be used or should be removed on sight
☒ a list of biased or unbiased sources
☒ a list of sources that are guaranteed to be correct regardless of context
☒ a list of every source that has been discussed
☒ a list of sources that have never been discussed, or whose reliability should be obvious to most editors
☒ a list of primary, secondary, or tertiary sources
☒ a list of independent or affiliated sources
☒ a list of self-published or traditionally published sources
☒ a representative sample of all sources used on Wikipedia or all sources in existence
So an editor can claim that, but since Wikipedia is editable by everyone and there are over 500 links to various discussions, it's just that guy's opinion. It's not an official rating of bias, as clearly cited, above. You've cited one that I couldn't even find. The link you provided brought up the page to search for Reliable Sources, but I had to search for Newsweek. That's when the 500+ discussions came up.
But you know, I'm just a librarian. What would I and my Masters degree know about reliable sources for information?
