Its a building. On the list of nearly-sacred and beautiful things that his occupation of the presidency is destroying, it hardly even rates a mention.
US superpowers too numerous to mention have been undermined, sold off in secret deals, or trampled for the fun of it.
Immigrant families have been blown apart using destructive, racist gestapo-like tactics. Some of them died.
Children traumatized by ICE.
Innocent (thats what people are, until proven guilty) guys in boats murdered by the most powerful country on the planet, as if they were ants to be flicked off a log.
Partnerships with allies dating back 80 years or more betrayed.
MAGA turned into unthinking zombies, ready to betray anyone or anything for their cult leader.
The Supreme Court acts without shame to prop up the oligarch party.
A lapdog like Mike Johnson
? Really?
Anxiety and stress, family disruption, and fear sits like a suffocating blanket over the lives of probably 100 million people or more, due to Trumps actions, inside the US alone. Ticking time bombs are pervasive.
Elections will worsen (hard to believe it is even possible), due to gerrymandering, lack of accountability, and likely the destruction of the VRA.
When Obama left in January 2017, the grace of the presidency gave way to a gaping black hole of a man who values nothing but himself and his money. It became occupied by all id. Four years of reprieve under Biden were temporary relief but not a thorough disinfectant, and the mold on the walls is simply growing faster.
At this point, if he wants to tear the White House down entirely, let him. At least it would be very visible, and the sleeping nitwits might start to question their choices.
Conservative. What a joke that word has become.

(76,692 posts)It is painful, traumatic and devastating to watch.
The American White House was a symbol of our country.
It hurt to see Trump take a wrecking ball to it.

(111,856 posts)it reflects his total disdain for the Constitution and democracy itself. It is why he can care not a bit for the horrors you list and why he feels NO RESTRAINT from doing so. So, you damned well ought to care.

(111,856 posts)While I sarcastically might suggest Stone Mountain (GA) to (more appropriately) join the confederate leaders, Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis, I'm pretty sure the same issue rises...

(11,590 posts)griping about stuff like this. The White House East Wing was last renovated in 1942, when a second story was added.
So, it probably needs renovation for lots of reasons; however, wish it had been done under Biden's Admin.
But that photo ought to be in background of Democratic midterm ads.

(17,254 posts)Yes, there is obvious damage. Whatever hes gonna do to the White House itself, it wont be good. In normal times, this would be infuriating.
But these arent normal times. Hell he could be melting down the Liberty Bell, tearing down the Lincoln Memorial, and pissing on the Constitution. Effectively those would be symbolic actions that would mirror what he is doing every day at a deep level in reality.
He is already destroying liberties, he is already dividing the union that Lincoln preserved, and I dont even have to mention the constitution because I think the protest last week probably did an accurate job of assessing that. The damage hes done to the White House versus the damage hes done to the presidency itself? The latter is far more consequential.
The sleeping nitwits (a few of them at least ) could at least comprehend this classic old building being ripped apart with an excavator. It is not abstract. The arrogance of their king is apparent.
The White House? Yeah whatever. Were so far past worrying about a building. We might as well be mourning the loss of the figurehead on the Titanic. There were people on that there ship
