AMA pushes back as RFK Jr. reportedly plans to fire members of preventive care panel
"WASHINGTON — No decision has been made on the future of an advisory panel that decides which preventive care offerings, like cancer screenings, must be covered by insurers, a federal health department spokesperson said, after a report that Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is planning to oust all members.
But the report has alarmed the American Medical Association, which is calling on Kennedy to keep the panel’s members in place.
The Wall Street Journal reported late Friday that Kennedy was planning to dismiss all 16 members of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, citing people familiar with the matter that it did not identify. Kennedy, the paper said, views the panel members as too “woke.”
