...with this president having already demonstrated he doesn't give a damn what type of criminal he pardons, and his personal attorney, appointed Deputy Attorney General by the president who is facing questions about his own personal and likely criminal relationship with Maxwell and Epstein, has every interest to continue the same evasive defense of Trump he was initially hired for, and has never actually ended.

Reupping: Todd Blanche filed his notice of appearance in the Ghislaine Maxwell docket NOT as Deputy Attorney General (tho that's how he signed his unseal request), but as Donald Trump's personal defense attorney.
This may just be slovenly lawyering. Or it may be reality.

It's not just a conflict of interest for Blanche to be soliciting information from an evident perjurer, it's interference in a prosecution and conviction which is still seeking an appeal before the Supreme Court.
Blanche's ONLY interest here is to shield Donald Trump from culpability, either real or accusatory. Whatever he gleans from Maxwell, or whatever she offers up to him has as as little credibility or weight as the inevitable resulting derogatory or accusatory post from his client and benefactor on Truth Social.
The one thing that Blanche is likely looking for and will almost certainly come out of any meeting with is some baseless accusation against one of Trump's political rivals, delivered up in one of the most compromised and complicit actions any official, associate, or WH attorney has ever participated in.
The play is like every other outrage committed in plain view. They're gambling that they'll get away with it if they just bull through, and the consequences for the perps from revelations of child sexual abuse are so severe that we can expect those involved to eat evidence against them right in front of us if it ensured it wouldn't see the light of day.
MSNBC:
At the risk of stating the obvious, the 63-year-old Maxwell probably wants to avoid spending the next decade-plus in prison. Blanche probably wants to use the tools of the justice system to help Trump politically, like the DOJ tried to do in the Eric Adams case, for example.
The Justice Department has already accused Maxwell of being a pervasive liar. The prosecutors who brought charges against Maxwell repeatedly told the judge overseeing her 2021 trial that she was willing to brazenly lie under oath about her conduct. And they noted that her lies were the subject of two perjury counts, arguing that they evidence her willingness to flout the law in order to protect herself. (The counts, which were initially expected to be the subject of a second trial, were dropped after her conviction on the sex-trafficking charges.)
Before her criminal case, Maxwell had already testified twice in civil lawsuits stemming from the allegations about her role in Epsteins crimes fiercely denying the existence of a criminal conspiracy or large-scale sex-trafficking operation. DOJ charged her with perjuring herself in those depositions.
Maxwell has apparently never given her version of events to federal prosecutors...

2021: Prosecutors offer to drop Ghislaine Maxwells perjury charges if she is sentenced
In a letter to Judge Alison Nathan filed on Monday, the government said it is willing to dismiss two perjury counts against Maxwell if her post-trial motions are denied. If any of them are granted, prosecutors said parties should propose a schedule for further proceedings.
The government said it is prepared to drop the two charges in light of the victims significant interests in bringing closure to this matter and avoiding the trauma of testifying again.
Prosecutors say Maxwell lied during a 2016 deposition taken as part of a defamation lawsuit brought by Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre. Part of Maxwells sworn testimony from 2016 is the basis for the charges, with prosecutors saying she lied when asked about Epsteins activities and denied knowing of his recruitment and interactions with underage girls.
In the deposition transcript obtained by Bloomberg, Maxwell told prosecutors they were asking me to speculate and I wont speculate, when asked if Epstein sexually abused minors.
