My sister just tested positive for Covid.
I live in her attached apartment. I moved there to take care of mom. We did that for five years. It was 24/7 home care and much of that time was during trumps pandemic. Neither of us came down with Covid, we were so very careful. We had to be.
I have been exposed, we had dinner together on Tuesday for her birthday and I was in and out of her house Wednesday. I will test tomorrow.
Like all of you I am so damn depressed right now with a psychotic nuclear orange man along with his team of fools in charge. I just dont need this on top of his threat to our existence. He is destroying everything that was good in this country. Everything.

You have been exposed to a potentially serious virus.
Your body may be trying to fight it off right now.
Some people get the virus and have no symptoms or very mild ones.
Do what you can to help your body fight it off if need be.

before there were vaccines was the Healing Broth from the Medical Medium
My symptoms were getting worse, I had 2 bowls of the soup and symptoms disappeared except for a trailing cough. I ate the soup for two weeks until the cough went away. This happened both times I had Covid, though by the second time I'd been vaccinated.
I'm not trying to promote the Medical Medium (no affiliation) but I do share this recipe with friends who have Covid. Ever since I didn't one time, and she died. You can Google the recipe. The Medical Medium is too far out for most people, but its a vegetable soup with some roots in in. It can't hurt.
It claims to be an antiviral soup. I've had success eliminating colds too.

(11,568 posts)What are her symptoms? Im wondering just what it means to have COVID now. I had it in 2022 and was quite miserable for about 10 days. It took weeks to feel really normal again.

(92,211 posts)Cough, aches and tired. She is a retired nurse and knows to hydrate and ibuprofen to get the fever down.

(27,087 posts)My partner and I got on it right away last year because our friend (vaxxed) had just gone through it and was miserable for a month.
We were taking no chances. It seemed to work really well but who knows maybe it would have been mild without the medication.
The only side effect was the weird taste a couple ours after each dose.

(92,211 posts)She did however have her last Covid shot a few months ago.
Glad things worked out for you and your partner. Better to be safe than sorry.

Lol...I hope I don't get it either. As a kid I always got sicker for longer than my sibs did.

On second thought, never mind the soup spoon. Make it a diving board!

(5,633 posts)Hopefully you'll test negative. Been where you were at... took care of mom, first in her house and then moved her in with us before the dementia got bad enough we have to move her to a memory home. The stress of caregiving will leave you immune weakened. I'll be thinking of you... good luck!
sheshe2
(92,211 posts)My mom didn't have dementia. She was pretty lucid until the end...and she hated trump! She passed a few months before her 96th birthday.
Thank you.

(5,633 posts)My mom died this past Jan 3. She detested trump with every fiber in her body. It was the ONE thing you could ask her about and she'd always have plenty to say about him - clear of all filters as only one with dementia can be! (LOL) There was all this talk on the TV about the coming Inauguration, etc., and I think she just decided she wasn't going to stick around for that all over again. I had her buried next to my dad at the National Cemetery. Sis and I are headed there on Sunday. They finally got the headstones engraved and put into place, and we're anxious to see them.
96 is a great age to have made it to. Mom was 88 when she passed. Dad was 77. Grandmother was the age I am now, 69. Kinda brings it all in close to home and makes you start thinking of the future in a whole different light.
Hubs and I are going to get caught up on our Covid vax on Saturday. We pick up my meds then, and I figure we'll just have them do it while we're there... before anything trump says or does affects us... especially money-wise on vaccines.
sheshe2
(92,211 posts)It is hard, I know. I am so glad you be able to view the engraved stone in their memory.💙 They will be together again.
I have not tested yet, some said it was to early and I felt fine today. I will see where I am at in the AM. I had 5 shots total, though I did not get the last one. I think I will do so now, as you say, that might be taken away from us because, per RFK Jr, vacines are bad!
Thank you.

(23,628 posts)I'm vaxxed so it was tolerable. I did call my doctor.... more just to inform him. He said paxlovid sometimes causes a rebound effect. He suggested just taking Dayquil and Nyquil for a few days which I did.
Hope she recovers quickly. Take care.

Please, hang in there, hope your Covid test tomorrow is negative and you don't have any symptoms. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

(1,740 posts)been vaccinated and boosted it should be mild. I was vaccinated twice and boosted twice. When I did come down with COVID it was very mild, five days and I have had worse colds. And I am a senior with many of the ailments of old age!

(153,628 posts)and crossing fingers for you!
Both of my sisters have gotten it including one who had a 2nd time as "flurona". Their kids also got it and one's hubby did although the other hasn't so far (knock on wood since he had a kidney transplant and wouldn't want that).
I am still holding on with not having gotten it yet and am still masking in any public "indoor" space (stores, post office, pharmacy, doctor's office, etc), but have faded out of wearing one outdoors (but try to keep my distance).

(1,989 posts)I'm just getting over a Covid infection. It's my second one. I finally caught Covid the first time on my birthday in 2023. My husband brought it back from a business trip. This time my son gave it to me.
My case has been mild even though I missed getting a booster last fall. My only symptoms were a little less energy and a raspy voice.
I hope if you do catch it your case will be mild as well.

(5,517 posts)Here's hoping your sister gets well soon and best of health to you too. I know it's scary stuff, and hopefully it's the milder variant, and that shot will hopefully make it less severe.
Missus and I tried dodging the original starting back 2020. For almost four years, avoidin movies, malls, super markets, etc. Then a relative brought it home.
Was rough going for two weeks. Coriciden and Mucinex were close allies. Took a lot of C too.
Stay strong.

(177,709 posts)Back in February, my sister tested positive for COVID. She made it through the pandemic without catching it, then boom.
I am immunocompromised and had been with her the day before she had the diagnosis. To my great surprise, I didn't catch it from her. Neither did her husband, who to this day has not had it.
Every day for a week, I'd take stock when I woke up in the morning to see how I felt. And everyday I felt fine.
So there's a chance that you may not get it. Testing tomorrow will be too soon. Wait a couple of days and then test. Best of luck to you.

I pick a day of the week and all day is either silence or music. No tv. No doom scrolling either.
I believe it helps to keep a perspective. I even watched about 30 minutes of Hannity last night just to see their slant b.s. I had to shut it off because I just cant stand them.
