(73 posts)But there ARE lots of ads.
I want life to promote my podcast to this audience. If I do it by posting, Ill be accused of pushing a commercial venture (never mind that the podcasts is not monetized).
This site has A LOT of rules, so I am trying to figure out how to reach people. One way, I thought, would be to pay for advertising.

forget it. Most of us choose to donate a self-selected sum to DU in order to NEVER see ads.
The ads that you are seeing are part of the internet-generated algorithms that is some company, somewhere has paid for these ads to appear on our screens and the algorithm is responding to whatever we are talking about at the time.
Intrusive? Hell yes. Creepy? Also hell yes, because it shows they are listening. But if you want to be one of them, find whatever big ad agencies are doing this, and pay them the big bucks.
ON EDIT: I see you have a podcast. That may be a gray area, but others will have to speak to that.

(73 posts)The podcast is free to listen to.
That aside, I have worked for media operations in the past. When businesses wanted to promote themselves through our news coverage, letters or op-ed columns, we told them this: Buy an ad.
I was merely inquiring how I might do the same thing here. Asking about six a thing is not a hostile act. DU is an ad-supported platform, so it seemed like a standard question.

(2,137 posts)The madness of the Trump 2.0 times would be very relevant here,
not as if you are trying to sell sneakers, or the latest "get rich quick scheme"!
And if the podcast is free, you aren't really trying to directly "sell" anything at all!
You could add a link to your podcast in your "signature", for starters,
and it would be shown on every post you make.... and then become a more active poster,
would give you a lot of 'passive advertising'.
That much would cost you nothing but effort!
One OP post about your podcast in General Discussion, and then possibly once a month,
talking about a specific topic of your latest podcast,
would not be considered "spamming" IMHO.
(I'd suggest doing the same on DailyKos.com, which is the largest Democratic blog on the internet,
and has much more traffic than this site! A signature link to your podcast there
would not be out of order, either!)

Daily Kos for a time and attended a conference. I found the group to be cliquish and kind of snobby.
That group seems more interested in promoting the careers of certain insiders than in building a movement.
But I could give it another try.

I had to look around. I knew it existed but forgot the name.
Now, check the terms on the writer's and artist's groups etc. It may be OK to discretely say that you have things to offer, but double and triple check,
Ads on DU probably (and this is just guessing., EarlG would know) are from AdMob or some Google operation..
People do get star memberships (or they re gifted) to avoid ads, and most probably use ad-blockers anyway.
