I think this is less of a confession to something we don't know about than a genuine expression of his shock at being made a fool of after Trump has done him so many solids right out in the open.

2) When he said I'll end the war my first day in office I assumed he would end it by cutting Ukraine loose, lifting sanctions and even switching sides in terms of material and Intel.
But now I think he believed Putin was such a great friend he could actually use his influence to stop the fighting and win a Nobel prize.
