Mike Johnson claims Medicaid cuts are teaching a 'moral' lesson to young men

The Republican speaker of the House says his party is going to achieve its deeply unpopular cuts to Medicaid via the “moral component” of protecting manhood.

Speaker Mike Johnson went on “Face the Nation” on Sunday and defended the House’s passage of a bill that institutes massive cuts — potentially $880 billion over 10 years — to Medicaid, a program 1 in 5 Americans rely on, claiming there are no cuts. Rather, he said, Republicans’ new work requirements are meant to end “fraud, waste and abuse” by forcing “able-bodied workers, young men” to get a job.

In the interview, Johnson responded to a question about the potential widespread loss of health care, including tens of thousands of people who stand to lose health care in his home state, by baselessly insisting the only people who stand to be impacted by the GOP’s proposals are “able-bodied workers, many of whom are refusing to work because they’re gaming the system.”

“You’re cheating the system,” the speaker said at one point. “And no one in the country believes that that’s right. So there’s a moral component to what we’re doing. And when you make young men work, it’s good for them, it’s good for their dignity, it’s good for their self-worth, and it’s good for the community that they live in.”

But basically every Republican votes for a party that openly hates them. It is hard to understand what people get out of voting for the GOP given how much the GOP clearly hates their own voters. It is a comedic tragedy.

Specifying all the fraud, waste and abuse associated with Medicaid. Providing specific amounts saved while not taking medical assistance away from humans? I’d like to take a look.

Young Men must be manly. Goddamned right say the 50 something year old men drinking beer and eating pork rinds in their trailer. It’s as if they are a target audience.

There are more Luigi Mangiones out there, not to mention sympathizers. All one has to do to confirm that is to recall what happened recently during the "news" segment on Saturday Night Live.

Colin Jost appeared surprised when the crowd cheered for Luigi Mangione during a joke Jost told about the suspected murderer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a recent “Weekend Update” segment on “Saturday Night Live.”

“Luigi Mangione dropped,” Jost said as he began his joke.

The “SNL” audience immediately erupted in cheers as Jost looked around confused.

“Yeah,” he continued. “Yeah, definitely woo. You’re wooing for justice, right?”

By the way, Medicaid eligibility was always about income, not employment status. If this country goes through another mass unemployment scenario, there are going to be huge problems with these new requirements for Medicaid. On the other hand, maybe not--the reporting requirements are going to create such an enormous bureaucracy that we will magically create full employment overnight!

It’s not nice to screw with old people. Many of them don’t even know they have been switched over to Medicaid from Medicare when they run out of money - which happens pretty quickly.

Hate to break it to you, Mikey, but baby mamas with ten kids from ten different fathers--the mythical welfare queens--are NOT the people using Medicaid. It also isn't able-bodied people, and, thanks to you, jobs are more and more difficult to be had. It is people who are disabled and people in nursing homes who get the lion's share of the benefits.

Mikey is a complete and total asshole.

starving and killing the elderly, women, infants and children has always been the Republican Nazi Party's plan of action for their Fascist wet dream. Small Johnson is just doing the work of his Republican Jesus base and his lord-god Fuhrer, leader of the Republican Nazi Party. Hopefully, the America I know and believe in will soon realize the monstrous evil of these Fascist rat bastards and end their criminal Fascist coup de etat of our country. Vulgar pigs and rat fucks like Small Johnson and the rest need to be jailed for the rest of their lives if for no other reason than just to deter other such assholes from acting accordingly.

am I mistaken? According to news reports, they are just raising the age for those requirements from 54 to 64 years old!

(although some of those requirements were waived during the Covid crisis)

Johnson is a fucking liar! He should read the Ten Commandments....

Keeps opining about making "young men" work, but the major change they propose is to make OLD people work to receive medicaid!!!
