for mining investmentAmid growing unease with President Trumps foreign policy, which JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon warns could isolate the U.S. under an America alone doctrine, foreign governments like Greenland are rethinking their investment alliances and considering alternatives such as China. Dimon has emphasized the importance of maintaining strong economic and military partnerships, a warning that resonates as Greenlandhome to vital untapped resourcessignals frustration with U.S. diplomacy and explores other global investors to support its development goals.
Foreign governments are beginning to shop around when it comes to drumming up investment, potentially stepping away from ties with Donald Trumps America.
The White Houses foreign policy under President Trump has raised eyebrows for a range of reasons, whether its been renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, claiming Canada will be adopted as the 51st state, or making bids to bring Greenland under its control. And thats before you consider tariffs.
The altered, often unpopular, stance of the Oval Office has led to economic experts like JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon to question whether Trumps America First policy may end up as America alone.

(18,333 posts)Will Russia take the military base over. Then when global warming permits ship passage through the area north of Canada - when the ice melts - will Russia set up a Panama Canal type passage ? But deny the USA passage so it can only bring its Chinese goods to port the long way around, making our retail prices sky high in comparison to all others ?
Djt is such a good executive and deal maker - NOT ! 'Cept he really does not know what the fuck he is doing or the longterm damage he is doing to America, nor does he really give a fuck.

(5,602 posts)the Northwest Passage is not an area north of Canada, it is an area in Canada.
What that means in the larger picture remains to be seen but it seems more and more likely to be contentious.

(18,333 posts).... I was under the impression that once global warming melted the ice the now northern passage would be just south of the land known as the North Pole and North of the land of Canada.
I am kind of fuzzy about what land belongs to who and where the passage will ultimately end up if/once the Ice melts and is accessible year round for ship passage.
Thank you for the clarification and information.
Has Russia declared any of the lands of the North Pole on this side of the earth to be Russian territory ? Russia is eager to plant a flag to claim the land of the North Pole where they think vast natural resources lie.

(5,602 posts)It's actually a pretty interesting situation. A map of northern Canada:
shows the "Northwest Passage" as M'Clure Strait to the west joining Parry Channel going east (with several Canadian islands to the north, the largest being Ellesmere Island), then proceeding south through Baffin Bay west of Greenland. However, if the artic ice pack ever recedes further north in the Artic Ocean to the vicinity of the North Pole, the small map insert shows a much wider (and shorter to Europe) potential path to the north of both Canada and Greenland (which is considered international waters (ice)). As well, IIRC, both Russia and China have made noises about the Northwest Passage being declared international waters.
Russia has not claimed AFAIK any lands this side of the North Pole but, since the Canadian Artic islands are so sparsely populated and developed, that is a big concern as Canada would have little chance of repelling Russian aggression there.
Trump is right about one thing at least - Canada had better get more serious about military contributions to both NATO and, defense of the Canadian Artic.

Just kidding. I am too old and crusty to plan such an excursion of that magnitude.
I appreciate the info.
